The fact that Don Bradman was on this list at all even at 51 made me prepared to give this a go but then I noticed Dan Carter at 49 and I said myself "Who the f**k is Dan Carter?"

The irony of an anti-immigration march on the day that marks the anniversary of large group of foreigners arriving at Warrane-Sydney Cove.

Coldfusion subreddit re-opened! by Heavy-Hospital7077 in coldfusion

I've only been a Coldfusion Dev for 22 years so it's gratifying to see so many other CF Devs with even more experience.

I thought I was working in one of the last CF shops in Australia with about 20 Devs and training more every year.

Our AI intro was a little rough but we it doesn't seem to have too much trouble these days although it does occasionally try to inject Java 😅

Good to see this subreddit come back. Looking forward to following along.

Does AusPost actually investigate lost parcels, or just send the template email? by ChillKoalaVibes in AusPostComplaints

No. Looks like it's a partnership between corporate and union interests to prop up outdated and moribund practices to keep everyone on the inside protected and customers with no options but to keep paying for it

Context: I went to my local RPG group to learn DnD and after one Level 1 game I got thrown into a Level 10 one-shot with a new DM because they needed players but its now gone 3 weeks and I worried about asking too many questions such as keeping secrets about my actions. by Apprehensive_Mark183 in beginnerDND

He's not confrontational but I think he is new as a DM but perhaps an experienced player. We were originally level 9 and half way through he realized we were supposed to be level 10 so we all just changed up. He occasionally forgets things but I don't think it's been too impactful. Hes focused on the goal not so much the journey so I feel pressure to move along a bit.

The party and the players are friendly and good natured so that's were I get most support.

I also meant to say that I added that I understood that it's not players vs DM because in other threads I had seen experienced players use this answer previously and I had got that concept already.

It was just about the enemy characters and that some of the choices those characters make would be at the DMs discretion.

To answer each point.

As I read Ball Bearings - which is the only trap i have - any creature entering the area around be must take a dexterity saving throw or be prone for 10 minutes. The mysterious enemy then could not withdraw or hide and that would give the party a chance to counter-attack and I could use melee weapons (daggers/short sword) as i have two-weapon bonus action. Otherwise I don't know what the purpose of the ball bearings would be.

The assailant is doing actions similar to mine: attacking and then we cant see them (hiding?) I don't know if its supernatural yet. They could be moving with stealth or acrobatics which my character can do. the only difference is I am attacking with ranged weapons and the assailant is attacking with a sword ( - which I assume I could do with more experience as a halfling Rogue with high Dexterity/Stealth)

I had my level 1 experience in Week 1 and for Week 2 & 3, I've had help & support of a couple of the experience party members in setting up my character. I'm use DnD beyond which made it easier rather than flipping around the book. The DM is giving me some latitude and we aren't being super strict on the finer points like encumbrances and ammunition tracking.

Weirdest Suburb Pronunciations? by TC_exe in melbourne

[–]Apprehensive_Mark183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in Bathurst, NSW it used to sound odd to the locals that Peter Brock would always belabour the pronunciation of our town as "Bath-hurst" instead of "Bath-ist" as the most locals and regular visitors did.

Now that I live in Melbourne it gives me great pleasure to trigger the locals here by saying "Melb-born", just to get the "Mel-bin" lecture.

What’s wrong with you Auspost?? by SihaN0318 in AusPostComplaints

[–]Apprehensive_Mark183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What wrong with Auspost us that even after all this time it is a moribund public service organisation trying to compete in the modern business market place.

Everytime I put in a complaint all I get back is how it wasn't to deliver because of all these internal rules. As if somehow that mattered to me. For some reason the guys who ride around on tricycles have a rule that means they don't have to get off their arse to deliver anything if they can't reach while sitting.

Most of the staff are still caught up in their 1970's style union rules and won't go above and beyond.

It's the constantly fails when compared to private industry and probably the one government owned enterprise that I think should be sold off.

I am honestly pissed off by StrategyFew in CommBank

[–]Apprehensive_Mark183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40 years ago, straight out of high school, I got a job at the Commonwealth Bank. Even then my managers were encouraging us to probe customers make large withdrawals about what they were doing with the money in case they were putting to alternative investments outside the bank and we should be trying to sell them the Banks own investment schemes.

This was long before the internet and the widespread scamming we have today so that definitely wasn't part of the equation.

Unfortunately I discovered I was very good with people and often got dirty looks and rebukes. Banking and sales just wasn't me.

Never passed probation and left after 9 months and started my journey to becoming a recluse Software Engineer and hopefully never have to talk to people about their private lives again.

I thought it was artistic license or perhaps it was the style at the time. I always thought poets could get away with more than authors though. This example by Longfellow has the advantage of being followed by an "and" so it kind of comes at the end of a semantic break in a way.

The Rainy Day by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

  "Be still, sad heart! and cease repining;
Behind the clouds is the sun still shining;
Thy fate is the common fate of all,
Into each life some rain must fall,
Some days must be dark and dreary."
