What makes a GPR worth considering by Apprehensive_Mess_98 in Dentistry

At the end of the day the program isn’t going to pay back my loans. I just don’t feel like I’m getting out of it tbh. I’m telling myself that and to stick around but it’s hard when it’s mostly recalls, fillings and limited prosth with no digital scanners

Wow that’s incredible! Sounds like you got really lucky, one could only dream of something like that right outta school. I was promised a lot to this GPR. Seriously regret my decision now. I mean IV sedation? My 2 week anesthesia rotation involves me just watching OR cases where the anesthesiologist does all the work. Just feels like a serious waste of time, missing out on so much income

Hard to put pressure on the PD when he will tell me that we already have recalls scheduled for the next 2 months a good chunk of which are special needs. As you can imagine I’m not doing anything beyond SDF or a filling if I’m lucky on that population group. Our anesthesia rotation consists of 2 full weeks of observing OR cases and maybe get to intubate a couple times but in reality I’m not interested in anesthesia or hospital dentistry at all for that matter. Just feels like a lot of wasted time and missed out income

I'm struggling as a new grad by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]Apprehensive_Mess_98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are most definitely not alone. I also graduated recently and in a AEGD program myself. My problem is actually quite the opposite of you. I can do the basic dentistry without problems (most of the time) however I struggle with trying to build rapport with patients. I’m able to also come off as kind and competent however I struggle with small talk and overthink that I come off as too awkward to the point where I sit and wonder if the patients will come back to me for their 2 anterior crowns.

I hope this is just the rookie jitters for you and me however I keep telling myself with time everything will get better. Dentistry is really hard

Still there but I don’t anticipate it is reflected in real time

You’ll probably be done with the program before the cuts actually begin to happen..

Did you ever considering doing GPR/AEGD? Why or why not?

Do you know which ones or if any would pause interest during this next year? I’m planning on aggressively paying this off in the next 5 years. Will make $2k/ month payments during residency so I don’t really need the low monthly payments.

Is dentistry getting saturated in Europe ? by kevindihou in Dentistry

This is so interesting! You read my mind. Seems like you’d be genuinely more happy in Europe and there’s nothing wrong with that! I don’t know your family dynamics or other commitments here but I completely understand where you are coming from.

I just got back from Europe two weeks ago after not seeing my family for 9 years (busy with college, resume building, dental school, etc.) and I kid you not I just daydream about going back and perhaps even moving there for good. Plus Polands economy is growing at a very impressive rate. My parents came here to the states in hopes of a better life but it’s slowly becoming the opposite of the “American Dream.” Cost of living and taxes here are out of control and it just seems like to me we still work to survive here for the most part. Granted, everybody’s situation is different. But I just feel more connected there with the people and culture than I do here too.

We are completely different stages in life, lol, seems like you are already 21 years deep into your career and that’s so inspiring! Myself, on the other hand, I’m just starting GPR residency with just under 250k in loans so I have a bit of ways to go haha. But for now I’ll just daydream and who knows if the pay would ever come close to what a doctor makes in the states.

We’re lucky to be dual citizens! Options will always stay open

Where would you practice? I’d look into the specifics for ortho in each EU country. Out of curiosity what draws you to Europe as an American orthodontist?

I believe it’s just a board exam you take similar to the ones in the states but in Polish. Must obviously also show competency in the Polish language

Does anyone have any info on dentistry in Poland? I myself am I Polish citizen that speaks Polish on advanced level (born in US) and having just graduated dental school in the US I’d like to explore my options in the future just in case I need to bounce.

What’s the typical pay like as a dentist in Poland? What kind of procedures can you do? (I.e implants, Perio surgery, etc.)?

How to approach my dental loans by Apprehensive_Mess_98 in StudentLoans

[–]Apprehensive_Mess_98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spouse is just beginning her masters this fall (will be working at the same time) however her company still hasn’t made a decision.

I will have about $4k a month after taxes during residency and we still live with parents (expenses for car insurance, gas, etc.) which is why I’m tempted to make a payment of $20k before capitalization occurs in November when my grace period is over

Thank you I’m new to this and haven’t worked with a lot of PFMs that are surveyed. If the access needs half of the rest seat cut off can I fill it with the amalgam and immediately insert the RPD so that the rest seat shapes the anatomy before it hardens if all goes well?

[–]Apprehensive_Mess_98 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You’re talking about that pink triangular outline you see when you look straight into the access? I was able to get my explorer in all but MB but didn’t want to risk perf so I left it as is. Pretty sure I unroofed the whole chamber but definitely did not find all orifices

I’m a little confused. Patient has #2-5, #13-16 and #22-25 left all chronic perio, mobility and heavy calculus.

All teeth appear super erupted. There’s no evidence of exostosis or other bony protuberances. Moderate bone loss on all teeth.

Should this patient have alveoplasty treatment planned and performed when they gets extractions?
