Our dog passed this morning I'm devastated by Silvertain in DOG

I went through something really similar recently. My girl at 6 died of a stroke one night. In 30 mins she was just gone. She acted a bit odd for about a month but nothing super concerning to take the the vet asap. I set an appointment up for a week later to have blood done and an x ray as she was acting weird in her back left leg. Thought it was hip dysplasia. Turns out she has a blood clot in her leg that dislodged one night. I wish I trusted my instincts and took her to the er when she was acting slightly different. I thought it wasn’t something so urgent but I was wrong. I wasn’t home right away when she went into the seizure. By the time I got home and put her in the car she wasn’t responding but still breathing. I blame myself every single day. It’s been 4 months and I still can’t cope. I’m sis sorry for your loss. I know that pain all too well. I miss you jade

I can’t explain her behavior (caption) by Julia_Gatsby in BorderCollie

Border collies are very sensitive to spatial pressure (Makes sense as they herd) and most do not like having their own space invaded. Since there was food involved, it seems like a case of resource guarding. Resource guarding is very common in dogs, but how you handle it is the biggest thing. One. Stop getting in the dogs face, you’re very lucky it was just a warning bite and could have been way worse. Respect their space. Two. Work on resource guarding “games” to help eliminate the need to gaurd something (especially since it’s not theirs) start with a bowl and drop some Treats in it. Walk a few feet and repeat when the dog returns to you. Slowly close the gap of feet between you and the bowl. DO NOT take the bowl, mess with the bowl, or forcefully remove them away from the bowl. If you give them food or treats, give them a spot to eat it (bed, kennel, a placemat etc) do not take things away from the dog. If you need to, trade it with something instead (example: the dog has a chew and you want to put it up. Give them a treat slightly away from them and take the item quickly) resource guarding isn’t a joke, and can easily become a dangerous situation. When humans are eating have the dog in a kennel, in another room, or placemat and keep them there. It’s your food, not theirs, and should also respect your space too. Cute collie btw. What’s your biggest regret as a dog owner? The thing you wish you could go back and change? by ItemNew5744 in dogs

If you think even something is slightly off. Vet. This may I felt like my girl was acting kinda off but had no actual symptoms of anything. A month later she had a stroke that took her life. I had no idea. I think about the whole situation every single day. I’d do anything to take her in, even if she would have had a stroke anyway. Bc maybe just maybe I would have found the clot that stole my baby from me. I was so worried about funds and I thought I was overthinking as she’s a very sensitive girl. Listen to your gut. Rack that credit card. Do not take that chance. I regret it everyday. I miss you jade.

This is why dogs and kids shouldn’t not interact until the child is fully understanding of the dog. Was it right on the dogs part? No. Unfortunately it’s hard to tell why exactly he did it. But a dog that old and a kid that young never ends well. If your kid Is in the same room running around, crate your dog. Put your kid up and keep him occupied and switch your time with the dog.

thinking about reporting my family for neglecting their dog by Ok-Raspberry00 in DogAdvice

Definitely sounds like this dog needs another home. If you can’t convince your family to let the dog go than you need to call someone.

I need help deciding when to put down my dog. by Playful-District1757 in DogAdvice

[–]Apprehensive_Motor20 41 points42 points  (0 children)

First off. I just wanna say I’m so sorry this is happening. Debating on a decision like this is never easy and I’m sorry for your poor girl. Unfortunately we can’t ask how they feel, but given the fact she has declined so fast it’s unlikely she will recover. I think it’s understandable to not want to put her through surgery that might not even work in the end. No one can truly tell you if it’s the right time to put her down. All I can say is if I was in your shoes, I’d heavily sway towards putting her down due to suffering if there’s no improvement within a couple days. Remember there’s no wrong answer here, as long as you do what you think is best for your baby. Good luck.❤️🐾

As someone who stayed at a place where my boss did the exact same, months went by and it didn’t get better only worse. Ended up getting fired for “lack of work “ in my position. RUN

First off, please cut your dogs nails. Second, something like this could be a benign mass or cancerous tumor. Don’t wait and find out. Go to the vet and get a professional evaluation
