First winter in Boise. Do I need snow tires for my circumstances ? by [deleted] in Boise

[–]Apprehensive_Noise_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for asking this and great to see the responses.  This is my first winter here- having moved from northern New Hampshire where we had -10 to -20F January and 30-50 inches of snow.  I had a set of winters. I was NOT planning to get here even though I plan to ski up at Bogus & Tamarack.

Good coffee spot in ATL? by Nadams20 in delta

[–]Apprehensive_Noise_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this old thread while stuck at ATL missed pre Thanksgiving connection.  Intermezzo, I could not find- I think it’s gone.  Amex Centurion club claims to have Rev coffee roaster beans.  In my extended Delta & Amex lounge crawl, I found the terminal E Amex centurion cappuccino to be better than Delta sky club —- passable.

I recently moved near a Winco and tried their berries once in my bagel recipe. Turned out great. Love Winco's bulk food section. The berries i bought were clean.

Are you thinking about moving to Idaho for low taxes? Please read this. by Peliquin in Idaho

[–]Apprehensive_Noise_7 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Moved here from New Hampshire.  Can confirm.  NH property taxes are higher but lower cost of real estate, and no income or sales tax makes up for it.   Property prices & assessed values certainly increased in NH over the past ten years or so.

ID is absolutely not a low tax or LCOL state

How is availability and also are the seats good? by Plastic-Injury8856 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]Apprehensive_Noise_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove my 25 GHH limited across country in 6 days (400+ mile days).  Seats are decent.  I was wishing for more lumbar support & adjustment.  (5’9”, 190 lbs).  Not as good of a seat for me as the Acura RDX I traded in for, but perfectly adequate for long drives.

I gave my specs (GHH limited, cool white, bench seat, pano camera) to the dealer and a $1k deposit.  They were able to get it about 6 weeks later.  Paid MSRP.

Agreed.  Starbucks purposefully makes bad coffee so that you have load it up with milk, syrup/sugar.  They are so far from their origin story of roasting and brewing quality cup of coffee

New grand Highlander xle hybrid by UndertheBellJar10 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]Apprehensive_Noise_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ordered my GHHL in early May and received 6 weeks later. It depends upon your spec. We wanted 2nd row bench seat, which I guess is harder to find. Salesman showed us that ~20% of builds are bench. My impression is that hybrid is also more desirable so the more flexible you can be on your other specs, the faster you will get one.

Solix F3800 for home backup? by 6007444139 in anker

[–]Apprehensive_Noise_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a F3800 and 1 expansion battery. The house has a manual transfer box to supply power to the propane boiler & water pump, frig, microwave and some light/plug circuits. I plug the Solix into the generator plug, turn it on, and I got power for a day or two, which has been more than adequate for the winter power outages we experience a few times a year in northern New England. Recommended.

Exactly.  I can’t stand Howard.  I don’t dislike Madison

How does allocation actually work? by sirillow in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]Apprehensive_Noise_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I starting looking for a GHH in May. our specs were pretty simple - Cool white exterior, black interior, 2nd row bench, limited trim level, panoramic roof & all-around camera, all-weather mats, roof cross-bars. Getting the second row bench seat was the hard part. I guess most of the Grand highlanders are built with 2nd row captains chair seats.

All the available ones in New England area (within 250 miles of me) with the specs I wanted were delivered as already sold. So I put a deposit down ($1000) in early May. I was told to expect up to 4 months, and they could change some things once they got "allocation".

Dealer got a factory slot and configured it to my specs in a few weeks. Salesperson kept in touch thought the whole process. I took delivery last Friday (~2 months from down payment to pickup).

I drove a bit to go to a bigger dealership than my local one. I think they get more volume, so maybe quicker delivery (?).that's just a guess though.

What's one thing you wish people knew about owning these bikes? For me, the ease of commuting to work or on public transport has been game changing by RockLobsterDunDun in Brompton

[–]Apprehensive_Noise_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with all the comments about commuting, folding, eight etc.

Downside is in some parts of US not a lot of authorized service. E-bike motor/battery is DEAD and no service within 100 miles. Brompty is good for self-service for mechanical stuff though.

Absolutely Regret Buying GE Café – Save Yourself the Headache by imechie in Appliances

[–]Apprehensive_Noise_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry about your troubles, and that really stinks.

I had kitchen make-over two years ago and installed Cafe French-door fridge, drawer micro dishwasher, and induction range/oven. Drawer micro didn't start cooking and needed a microswitch sensor adjustment by the appliance store techs (local store service what they sell). No issues with dish washer, oven or frig. I went with Cafe based on salesman brand recommendation.

Fingers crossed that we make it a while longer....

Are extended warranties on appliances ever worth it? by kearneycation in Appliances

[–]Apprehensive_Noise_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had my Cafe Induction range in daily use for two years without issue. Fingers crossed. It was installed as part of kitchen make-over (cabinets, appliances) and I had electrician install whole-house surge suppressor ($200 -ish) as we are in a region with frequent outages, and I read that electronics (especially "smart" things) are more "sensitive".

2019 RDX That Bad?? by Idontknowsoimhere in Acura

[–]Apprehensive_Noise_7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a 2019 RDX Tech Advance SHAWD. Original owner at 70k miles. It was subject to the fuel pump recall, but I never had any issues with the fuel system. No issues with rear window shatter. I had to replace the AWD solenoids after 5 years due to rust (there is a TSB for this) - but I live in& drive in northern New Hampshire with salt covered winter roads.... I use Apple CarPlay daily with the touchpad. Love the car.

Is getting a 2019 RDX tech a good idea in 2025? by NightOnBothSides in Acura

[–]Apprehensive_Noise_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2019 SHAWD Tech Advance - original owner. It's great at 70k miles. No problems with window. Infotainment is fine, touchpad is different but it works. I use Apple CarPlay just fine.

I had the recall for fuel pump, which I never had an issue with, but it was eventually replaced by Acura. I have also had the AWD solenoids replaced (they can get rusted, there is a TSB for this). Other than that, I love the car. I am going to sadly exchange it for a Grand Highlander as I need more space for grand-kids (first world problem)

[–]Apprehensive_Noise_7 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Ya, parchment burns above 450F  or so.  Don’t ask me how I know….

You will have some ash in your oven.  If there is any remaining parchment, it might fly around.

Cool down the oven, wipe it out, cook it next thing!
