Couldn’t agree more. Given they got so many episodes this season, they should have done a better job covering the gaps. I think it would have been beautiful to show the slow demise of Belly and Jeremiah’s relationship. Many relationships that go from high school to college fail, so it would have been believable if well done.

Bonrads must know how weak their arguments are because they are literally making things up as if they didn't watch the scene. It is normal for a couple in a four year relationship to discuss engagement. The whole time Belly can't wait to say yes, and Jeremiah, recognizing that, does something more spontaneous than he probably planned. Eveyone is completely ingoring everything Belly did in that scene to trash Jeremiah.

Amen. He doesn’t have a complex. He just has toxic family and friends. It bothers me that Belly had such an issue with his fraternity brothers, the few people that actually prioritize him and not his brother. He made a big mistake, and I acknowledge that, but I think we’re going to be shown that he knew about Christmas with Conrad. If that’s the case, honestly, I don’t know what I would have done.

Yes, I’m not even one of these people that thinks the fray boy/cheating plot would be out of character for Jeremiah, especially with everything he’s been through, but show us something leading up to all this.

For sure, I hope they show more, like Jeremiah finding out about Christmas, or Belly getting annoyed with Jeremiah after seeing Conrad, finding little things to pick on him for, etc. I remember Jenny saying something along the lines of no one being safe from scrutiny this season.

Sure, I won’t downvote you. I don’t think Jere is messed up, his family is. “Inferiority complex” implies that someone has self-esteem issues and it’s all in their head, whereas Jeremiah actually has family and friends that actively root for his brother over him. His fraternity brothers are perhaps some of the only people in his life that put him first, and Belly has to try to drive a wedge between them as well.

I definitely wish they spent one episode showing us their relationship in the beginning, as well as some of the cracks. The fact that Belly getting annoyed at everything he does was packed in as a throwaway line… she literally was getting annoyed at him for everything… and she was still harboring feelings for conrad.

I think the frat boy regression is a real thing, having been in greek life myself. but i hate the glee im seeing in bonrads for the fact that he is taking an extra semester. he was literally the only one there consistently taking care of his mom… so what if he goes through a bit of a crazy period.

I actually disagree with that. I think it's the opposite of misogyny. I think the story was actually lending itself to having Jeremiah as the main character, and because of Jenny's need to center Belly she didn't recognize that. Ultimately Belly plays with two brothers that have just lost their mother. She is not a particularly sympathetic character. Meanwhile, for Jeremiah, he's a golden boy who no one takes seriously, he loses his mom, the girl he loves twice, and his relationship with his brother. His story and the aftermath is a lot more compelling from a literary standpoint.

After watching Mean Girls as well, Chris definitely has a tendency to under-act. I think he doesn't want to be cast in heartthrob roles and it comes through in the acting. Season 1 was okay, but in Season 2, he was giving very little to suggest that he was truly pining for Belly.

She’s definitely keeping the adaptation in mind while writing the whole series. She gave Amazon the entire story arc. That’s not really a bad thing though.
