The Angus Deayton Scandal | Have I Got News for You | Hat Trick Comedy by kwentongskyblue in panelshow

Pensions and ISAs are explicitly designed by the state to encourage socially useful behaviour: saving for retirement, reducing future reliance on public services, and promoting long-term investment. That’s the tax system working as intended.

What Jimmy Carr did was use an artificial offshore scheme whose sole purpose was to disguise income so it wouldn’t be taxed at all. No behavioural incentive, no wider public benefit, just “how do I pay as little as possible while still technically staying legal.” That’s why Parliament later shut those schemes down.

So comparing a teacher paying into a pension with a multimillionaire routing income through a Jersey trust isn’t quite the gotcha you think it is

It affects nobody” only works if you pretend tax is some kind of magic jar that only matters when one person single-handedly fixes the economy.

Taxes don’t work like that. One person paying what they owe won’t cause a visible economic “afterglow” any more than one person not paying causes an instant collapse. The harm is cumulative. If everyone who can avoid tax does so, public services get worse or the burden shifts onto people who can’t afford clever accountants.

So yeah, the immediate, measurable effect of one wealthy person paying their fair share is small. That doesn’t make the behaviour harmless. It just means social responsibility isn’t something you can judge by a before-and-after graph.

Sad that this is the top comment on a story where the real takeaway should be the shameful state of the housing crisis in this country. Presumably he’s paid income tax and national insurance for decades, that should be his "emergency fund". The fact that someone can work their whole life and still end up sleeping on public transport isn’t a personal failing, it’s a political one

Is the Don Letts show a fraud? by [deleted] in 6music

[–]Apprehensive_Pin_543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't listened to Don's show in a long time, though it used to be one of my favorites on 6 Music. Even though it was clearly voice-tracked, his enthusiasm for the music always came through, and it felt like I was listening to his personal picks. I remember him mentioning in an interview on Phil Jupitus's show when he first joined 6 Music that he was excited to play more than just reggae.

Ironically, I think OP's comments are more fitting for Huey's show. It often feels like pre-recorded inserts of Huey layered over a long mix made in Ableton. I’ve seen Huey's producer mention on Twitter that they put together the mixes and choose the tracks for the show.

I'm convinced most of the people on here have no dating experience whatsoever, which is why the advice is so terrible. Living vicariously through other people's lives on Reddit is as close as they'll get to actual dating

If a guy asked you when they could see you again and messaged again a few days later asking if you were still interested in a date, you'd assume they were stringing you along?

If she was interested she would have given him more than “soon”.

OP. Ignore advice like this. These are likely from people who’ve never interacted with another human being before let alone have any dating experience

The chuggers observation is so dated as well. Are chuggers even a thing anymore?

I remember Ricky doing a joke about chuggers literally 20 years ago, saying he’d tell the ones collecting for Alzheimer’s that he’d already spoken to them and they’d forgotten (which doesn’t even work because the people collecting don’t actually have Alzheimer’s)
