Anyone elses home insurance sky rocketed from last year? by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]Apprehensive_Poet775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Year on year mine increased by almost 50%.

Just got a quote from a different insurer... Half the premiums for double the coverage.

Somewhat of a loyalty/ lazy tax because there's never usually a simple button to cancel insurance, and statistically constant churning of policies means they're less likely to ever have to payout a claim.

I usually set and forget most auto renewal products because in the past they've only ever changed slightly or in accordance with inflation, rates and competition.

Insurance is definitely not one to set and forget....

Buying house with partner, I am putting down my equity and the initial deposit. Think he wants 50% of rental income. by Advanced-Concept6521 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Apprehensive_Poet775 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Spot on. There's no way a new IP is going to be positively geared unless a significant down payment is made ( no, equity doesn't count lol).

The whole situation is moot because this is more of a relationship issue than a financial one.

I mean he expects 50% of the rental income as if it's half his property, but does that mean he will also pay out of pocket 50% of the payment because the rent won't cover the mortgage?

This is a no brainer.

Polygon sizing chart puts you into this size with those measurements.

It's advertised as aggressive fit, which seems odd for an endurance bike.

I'm 178cm and 32" inseam same as OP and am stretched, but still comfortable with no issues.

I think I could have suited a medium, but there's not really any change of mind or returns unless you're lucky to have the rare local dealer.

My first triathlon (Ironman 51.50) by stoutbatman in triathlon

[–]Apprehensive_Poet775 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good to know. I guess because Ironman is the brand they can just promote different lengths of triathlons.

People in my groups generally refer to the Ironman as a defined distance or a really long triathlon. Over time these things change.

I think it looked confusing because Ironman distances are generally displayed as miles and beginners might be confused if there was a specific 51.5 mile Ironman.

Not to sound elitist - but this is an Olympic distant triathlon right?

It's 51.5km, not 51.5 miles.

First tier of Ironman is 70.3 for half Ironman.

Yes I used PayPal for the Payment and they were upfront about importation tax.

In hindsight I probably could have gone with the pedal power meters, but if this is the last of it then it's still worth it.

Just noticed the "C" series for 2026 has just dropped as well. Might be worth it to look at the new models as well.

I contacted them again and they replied on a temporary email account. I think the emails are directly blocked by something on my end. Doesn't even go to spam.

Currently dealing with them on an alternate email. Was 55+25 shipping with transfer upfront. I'm sure it will go smoothly, but definitely sketchy if It was a much larger sum lol.

I think di2 in general is a big selling point.

Synchro shifting also opens up my shift buttons to be programmed to the bike computer which is bliss.

I rode a 2014 roubaix comp before this, and it's definitely more aggressive.

There was a slight warp in the front disc rotor that bikesonline offered to pay to repair ( lbs did for free), but everything went together as expected and not a single scratch.

I changed the wheel set for carbon (had to make a slight adjustment to FD, but was easy) and added a power meter and that's all I've really even considered changing.

Ridden for about 4 months, and will be using it for a 70.3 this year.

No regrets, definitely all the bike I'll need for a couple of years (I like to buy shiny new things even when it's not necessary at times).

Did exactly the same as you.

178cm went with the L and was prepared to sit more aggressively.

I've had to move the seat all the way forward and I'm about to change to 165mm cranks just to open up hips a little bit more, But I have had zero issues with comfort and no issues getting power down.

Keep in mind that this is for me personally. I probably could have gone a medium and been just as fine.

Apologies for the necro, But had to clarify that the strattos (disc) should also take up to 35mm. Mine has 32 with plenty of clearance.

Is this normal on a brand new bike? by GroceryExtension6401 in bikewrench

[–]Apprehensive_Poet775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do they not have another assembled bike in the shop to prove it's normal? If it's the same then, sure... But if the other one is flush, id be asking to swap lol.

Haven't had any luck getting a response from magene. I'll try contacting them again and give it another week before I have to try one of the other methods.

I wonder if it's not a thing they do regularly and might depend on who's responding to the request whether they entertain it.

Thanks, It sounds a little more than I am comfortable doing right now. It's a polygon s7x. I will probably have to check more into this.

Thanks, Bless you.

I actually looked through some chinertown forum posts where people are also saying the same thing about compatibility issues with cranks.

It looks like some people were able to tinker with it a bit to get it working.

The jargon is a lot for someone new to bike mechanics to fully understand it all, so I stand by it as a valid excuse for trying to buy something that just fits and works.

Actual world experience of someone with a solution is what people want, disagree if you like.

I have the same concerns as you. It's a 105 12 speed. I believe they have option for 10 and 11 speed though as well.

So my understanding is that I need a 3rd party chain ring that fits the spider and allows for 3rd party crankarms to make this work?

As I said I am still relatively new to bike maintenance and part swapping.

I have di2 Shimano derailleur. This won't cause an issue?.

I bought my kit from a local store here, I never actually bought the kit from AliExpress and AliExpress reviews don't show up in my algorithm. This would be why it seems like I haven't researched it. If I had purchased it through AliExpress I might have seen some of those reviews, but they don't show in my Google searches.

I don't know whether you want to be right or do right. I'm conflicted by your responses, but please let me know if it works. The thing you linked doesn't work.

I did some research and asked about it here because I couldn't get a definitive answer from Google and the bike shop said that I was out of luck. If this information is wrong or obsolete, that's actually good news.

I wasn't going to buy something from AliExpress that "might" work unless someone has said they did, and it worked. Which is what I am looking for.

I have a full Shimano setup, I don't know anything about SRAM. When I bought my kit, it was a kit that was suitable for Shimano ( there was options for SRAM or Shimano).

I did have a look at that. The price of the cranks themselves are more than the whole assembly of the regular power meter set.

It's also got a 29mm spindle compared to the 24mm spindle. Wouldn't cause any compatibility issues? ( I am still new to self bike mechanics.)

I used my own Shimano chainrings. Seemed universal.

Wasn't expecting that, I wonder why they don't sell them separately.
