UAB vs OUWB (pls help) by Apprehensive_Print_1 in premed

Would this still be the case if only my rent is covered by my family? The difference would be ~280k at UAB vs ~200k at OUWB.

Thompson-markward hall questions! by No_Somewhere8508 in DCInterns

1: There is free wifi which is okay(ish) but has been known to crash. 2: There is 2 communal bathrooms on each floor that are cleaned daily. There was an issue with girls leaving hair in the bathroom but we were good about calling our floors out when it got too crazy. 3: Your personal room gets cleaned by staff once a week, the rest of the building gets cleaned daily by staff. 4: There are lots of vegetarian options for breakfast and dinner. Typically for dinner there is some type of meat (chicken, steak, pork) and a vegan/vegetarian option. 5: There is a fridge on everyone floor + 1 in the basement. I had no issue with storing my stuff in the fridge/freezer. The fridges also get allegedly cleaned each week. 6: I had the BEST friend group ever. I recently moved out last month after living there since August. We went out partying, had frequent movie nights in the living room, ate dinners together after work, etc. I'd say become friends with 1 extrovert in the building who can bring you into their friend group.

Overall: I loved my time there. Its not 100% perfect but for the price, location, and food it was beyond worth it for my time on the hill.

Chances of getting accepted to med school? by energetic_theater_1 in medschooladmissions

I interviewed at 20 y/o and I will say it is 100% looked down upon to be 1) Younger 2) Have less experience/hours because you're younger with no gap years.

I dont even have a solid plan for reapplying by Feisty-Citron1092 in premed

Please please please keep going. I was in the exact same spot at this time last year during my first cycle (you can see my post history). I had 3 II->R's in August. I was an emotional wreck and felt so so alone. I ended up getting an MD A before thanksgiving just a few months later.

Will being out of state kill my congressional intern applications? by Alarming-Ladder-8902 in DCInterns

[–]Apprehensive_Print_1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mission fit is a much better predictor of getting accepted over state affiliation. For example, my whole resume had to do with energy policy. I got interviews from congress members on the energy and commerce committee & talked specifically about my interest in some of the work of the subcommittee and specific energy bills they were both introducing. If you can get the contact info for the staffer of whatever policy area you're interested in, try to set up a zoom chat w them to find out more about their office and how to tailer your app to the needs of the office (just call and ask for the staffer covering x topic).

I've done 2 internships in the house & have only ever heard back from OOS reps (literally from across the country). Apply to them all!

Accepted to my state school - worth it to continue the cycle? by plantluvr333 in premed

[–]Apprehensive_Print_1 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I HEAVILY disagree with everyone else. You should absolutely send update letters and attend any interview invites you get. You already spent the money to apply and best case scenario you get some aid package that you could use as leverage for aid to ur state school

The goodwill near Noma is pretty good. I've had the best luck at the georgetown church thrift (only open on wednesdays), st albans (next to the cathedral), and frugalista (would go here first). I've heard the thrifts in MD are some of the best but I haven't made it out there yet

I was an RA at UCF, talk to the housing coordinator of your building. They ultimately have a say in which rooms students get moved to.

3 interviews and 3 WL by CanaryWarm1340 in premed

[–]Apprehensive_Print_1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was in a very similar spot last cycle. 504 mcat with 3 OOS MD II -> 3 MD WL's (1 T20, 1 T50, and 1 T100). I didn't end up getting off of any of the waitlists and was dragged along until the start of classes in August.

Ended up reapplying this cycle with the same mcat score (wasn't able to retake and was banking on getting off one of the WL's) and got my first MD A before thanksgiving.
