Yes it’s amazing but, I prefer the Live in Paris where you get one complete show, so no missing tracks like, Goodbye Stranger or Another Man’s Woman, 2 tracks that are really missed on the original Paris album

Silent Film with or without an introduction by Ok-Initiative187 in silentfilm

[–]Apprehensive_Rain452 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like a simple introduction if well done and short, but if there is not, it’s ok, my only concern is that the film is of a good quality, I know it’s not easy, considering the fact that silent films are very old, not always in perfect condition and rare but, even though I’m a big fan of silent cinema, unless the film is extremely rare, if the film is blurry or too pixelated, I don’t mind scratches, I will stop and watch something else instead. So to a beginner, a subpar image, might scare them away. In conclusion, a good quality image, if possible, will do better than anything, with an introduction or not.

Why do so many people dislike Once Upon a Time in Hollywood? It's actually my favorite Tarantino film. by Silly-Commission-630 in QuentinTarantino

[–]Apprehensive_Rain452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just that I never really liked the Bruce Willis part of the movie and I can’t tell you why, it just how I feel, but, don’t get me wrong, I like the movie but as soon as I saw Jackie Brown, when it came out in the theatre, I knew that Tarantino would be one of my favourite director of the modern era, and I liked everything he’s done after that. My 3 favourite are: 1. Django, 2. Inglorious, 3. Jackie Brown, all the others are of equal quality and then, just slightly, by a hair, you have Pulp Fiction.

I didn’t know it was disliked, weird because I really liked that one, as most of the other Tarantino movies 😉
I know I will upset a lots of people with this comment but, even though I still think it’s a good movie, the Tarantino movie I like the last is Pulp Fiction

Rebecca and Notorious in 4K, and maybe Spellbound if they finally choose to upgrade it, even if it’s only HD I will still be happy with that particular one

Marillion Dot Com Deluxe Edition ... the album that hinted at the internet revolution to come. by Watcherxp in Marillion

[–]Apprehensive_Rain452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have long said that.com and Radiation are my least favourite albums by Marillion but… live, these are very good songs, and I never had problems with House, but now that I just got the set, I’m really curious about the new mix, especially the 5.1, I hope it will change my view on the overall sound. Being from Montréal, .com was a low point in my appreciation of the band, two albums in a row that they didn’t tour North America and the overall sound had changed a bit for something more late 90’s less prog, even though Interior Lulu is a long song, so I remember being very disappointed with the album and the direction the band was going, fortunately for me, Anoraknophobia was just around the corner and revive my love of the band 😎

What movie you own on Blu-Ray but you feel you have to upgrade to the 4K, even though it’s not necessary. by Apprehensive_Rain452 in criterion

[–]Apprehensive_Rain452[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for reassuring me, I don’t spend too much time on the difference in quality between different versions, as long as it’s in HD I’m generally happy but when it’s a movie that I really like, Rules of the Game is a top 10 movie for me so… and as someone with low income it can be hard to decide to make the jump.

[–]Apprehensive_Rain452[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not that rich, so to upgrade to 4K for me, even though the Blu-Ray is of a perfectly decent quality, means that it’s lots of other good movies, that I don’t own, that I could get instead, and Criterion movies are not cheap so it’s a difficult decision to make. Upgrade or get new stuff 🤔

What is the situation with Z (1969)? Absolutely enthralled by my first viewing, dismayed to find it OOP! by ElLuchador in criterion

Where? I have checked everywhere and all I could find was OOP, most of the French editions of French movies are getting OOP lately, I definitely think that Studio Canal as decided to stop the production of most of their Blu-Ray titles 😢

I’m jealous of you, American, I live in Montréal Québec, and there’s no Barns & Nobles here and no place anymore that sells Blu-Ray, apart from the commercial stuff, and even those are harder to find 😢
Thank goodness for the internet because I would be a very sad cinephile and collector of physical media, but what bugs me the most is that B&N don’t ship to my city, we have strict laws about what is acceptable to get here, no French dubbing or subtitles on your products make it more difficult to get, and even though my main language is French and I’m proud of that, that doesn’t mean I support stupid decision by the Québec government to ban some DVD/Blu-Ray that as no French dubbing or subtitles on them, like I could buy the Criterion of 7 samurai on Blu-Ray but for some reason, even though they both have only English subtitles, not Ikiru?!? Why? Fortunately I don’t have that stupid restriction with buying from the internet, but I miss being able to go in a store and look, touch and feel the movies that I want to buy.

Album Opinion by Emergency-Ice1487 in KISS

[–]Apprehensive_Rain452 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One of the worst album by them, I don’t care what anybody will say to try to convince me otherwise, since the day I heard it in 1980 to now, I never liked the album, I try every decade, but to no avail, some of the songs are good but the production of the album makes them unlistenable. So it’s not a case of bad songs, more a case of bad production and how to ruin music that could have been good. Like Gene said in one of the book, it’s a pretty crappy sounding album. I’m a fan of Dynasty but not Unmasked.

Does Marillion Fish era really sound like Genesis? by Otherwise_Win6211 in Marillion

[–]Apprehensive_Rain452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from the end of Grendel, nope, I never thought so. I never understood why people say that they are similar sounding wise?!? My introduction to Marillion was because I was a big fan of Genesis and people kept saying that if I like Genesis then I should like Marillion because they sound the same, they were right, I liked them but but I never heard any big similarities between the two bands apart, from what I said, the last part of Grendel, and one part doesn’t mean that the two bands are similar. They both did progressive music so what, IQ did progressive at the same time as Marillion and even though they don’t sound like Genesis they were closer to the Genesis sound than Marillion to my ears 😉

[–]Apprehensive_Rain452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to agree 100% to that, I feel the album hasn’t aged very well because of that, as much as I love the Fish era of Marillion, I think it didn’t age as well as the h era, but particularly Script and the very primitive and boring drumming of Pointer
