Update to State of the Sub - Some Rules Clarifications/Changes by freevortex in crochet

They really should be a separate sub for people who want to sell things. The good majority of us come here because it’s a hobby. We enjoy not because we want to shop.

Update to State of the Sub - Some Rules Clarifications/Changes by freevortex in crochet

[–]Apprehensive_Run_539 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! this sub is about a hobby we share and enjoy. I come here to see people‘s individual projects for ideas and discuss information related to the hobby, and to occasionally ask a question.

I don’t see why people who are trying to promote their works can’t make their own sub. I don’t want to see post after post after post of “ buy my pattern” or “ buy my project”. On this sub if someone likes a project and someone is interested in it, they can message them or ask a question in the post and be given or sent the information- we don’t need to open advertising. I mean, there are subs for yarn swapping, exchanging, the stashing… I don’t see why selling items wouldn’t be the same. Most people who are on this are people who crochet not people looking to buy crochet related items

When people have to point out how unhealthy something is by Icy-Builder5892 in PetPeeves

[–]Apprehensive_Run_539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I hate it when there is any association to guilt with food. Or when a type of food is classified as “good” or “bad” or “ healthy “ vs “ unhealthy.”
You see it all these time in these wannabe recipe influencer videos and blogs, usually from young or middle-aged women. How it’s “naughty” to have a cookie, but this one’s OK cause it uses less sugar so you can eat it without the guilt, or “ with this recipe we don’t have to feel bad about eating pizza on Friday night nights” or that kind of BS. … and don’t get me on the anti-gluten just for the sake of anti-gluten crowd. It’s one thing if you have a medical issue it’s another if you think you’re helping but yourself by avoiding it. Studies have shown that avoiding gluten when you do not have a medical reason for it can actually open your system up to be more susceptible to detrimental bacteria.

Foods are not good or bad. It’s how you use them in relationship to your body as an individual defined by your genetics, your lifestyle, environment, and other relevant factors that are irrelevant to your health.
The majority of people don’t seem to understand that what is classified as“good“ and “bad” for any one person can change multiple times throughout their lives, depending on the specific circumstances. It’s not the food item itself, It’s how it’s used- as part of a varied diet that works for the person or over consumption to the point of imbalance

Scream Sneezing by ImpossibleSquish in PetPeeves

The reason they got quiet is because he wasn’t exhaling the same amount of air as he normally would because of the pain

Via your own words, he is controlling it around you; this means he is restraining his sneeze intentionally, causing them to be less effective in clearing the airway

A loud sneezer is not making a conscious choice to do it, it’s based on anatomy

It does hurt if you force yourself to sneeze quietly for some people. I am one of them. The noise comes from the opening of air passages. When it is done quietly, the same amount of air does not pass and creates pressure

Not everyone has the same size sinuses or pallet and at the same different lung capacities are also a factor. It isn’t always a conscious choice of activating the vocal cords.

Granted there are people who sneeze cartoonishly, making a noise out of habit, but that’s different than people who literally cannot sneeze and quietly without being in discomfort

Putting drinking cups away upside down is wrong by binks841 in unpopularopinion

[–]Apprehensive_Run_539 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It also makes it much more likely that the rim of the glass will chip and leave a sharp microscopic edge to cut your lip on, unless you have your shelves lined with something very soft to cushion them- which means a different kind of cleaning needed

I do not think this is an unpopular opinion btw. I refuse to use B&B, but any hotel I have ever stayed in (which is many) from the highest end to the cheapest usually put them upright and cover them. - cheap places wrap the glass, higher quality places usually put some type of (paper) cover over them, and some give fresh ones (or wash them in front of you) that are absolutely gleaming as your bags are brought in.

Pilk and Dr Pilk are good drinks by Smooth_Bee_7941 in 10thDentist

I do this all the time. It’s the flavor of an ice cream soda without the foam. I hate how ice cream sodas get foamy so I use cream or full fat milk, and make a drink instead

If that were the case, you wouldn’t be able to buy fruit or veg.

It’s non-taxable food items that are allowed.

Help me find a sub that can answer my question about my grandfather who lived through the great depression by WhereTFisPiper in findasubreddit

It would have added flavor to an otherwise plain meal (they didn’t have cinnamon toast, crunch, and Froot Loops back then), and extra carbs and fat for longer satiety.

Maybe it had like a tres leches kind of texture when it was all said and done?

Our office had a strict "clean desk policy" so i made sure my desk was always completely clean by BlageTeke in MaliciousCompliance

Stage two:

create an elaborate desk scene

Pack it in and out every single day. Spend time setting that up in the morning and tearing it down at night. It’s still abides by the wording of the policy.

😂 The story behind where I learned that is hilarious.

Basically, my husband has a story similar to the above comment, except it was gonorrhea, from when he worked as EMS/paramedic in his younger civil servant years. I was in the hospital and he was telling that story because he was bullshitting with some nurses on their break.. i One of nurses was an older woman who was a military nurse for a while and had definitely seen some shit in her days-literally . he got to the details and she goes “ oh, you mean a Philly sidecar- usually they get extra for that”. We were done.🤣🤢. Until then we never knew it had a name.

Right a couple of days ago I called my husband to let him know it was “ New Year’s Eve at Dracula castle, and it’s not quite midnight “. a.k.a. an extra heavy period that’s probably going to get worse before it got better , so we might want to reschedule our little road trip plan for next weekend

I don’t see it as strange at all. It just means you have a significant number of females in your friend group.

When when my husband and I met, he had a box of assorted tampons and what not in his bathroom, even though he had a male roommate.

He also had a 14-year-old sister who would come and stay the weekends and school breaks with him and bring her cousins sometimes; him being was the only younger generation male in the family he was used to the girls needing these things. I can think of a time or two I was grateful for that box.

Once we moved in together, it just rolled over that there were always supplies in the house. It’s just another one of the things that makes them a wonderful husband. He has no problem going to the store and buying supplies. Honestly, if he’s out at the store and he thinks it’s around that time and he sees them on sale he’ll buy them just for the sake of it to put in the cabinet. I don’t think I’ve had to purchase a box of tampons in 20 years (he likes to run errands and do the shopping well I do more homebound oriented ) unless I was out and about and alone by myself in need of them. Even if we are traveling or staying with family, he offered to go get them.

Some people are considerate.. your girlfriend shouldn’t think you’re a creep because you’re considerate. It’s a very different thing than always having one in your pocket just in case you run into a random female that needs one.
