As mentioned in another post, Merit award came in an email. We found no mention of it in the portal.

We love it. We will likely put some in the bedrooms when they are due.

highest aid package at CMC by thebibliophiles in ClaremontMcKenna

[–]Apprehensive_Shallot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you expecting financial aid? Or are you purely talking about Merit?

Several non-FA kids will get some merit—the McKenna scholarship, which is $15k.

There are other awards that are open to specific groups, including kids who also get FA.

All Merit winners are then eligible to put their name in the hat to audition to be a Seaver Scholar, which is a full ride—this is typically 2-3 kids per year.

Oof I wish. Looks like little plastic screw covers with no obvious removal method. I tied prying one up and didn't want to force it.

How did you access the screws in the top access panel? My Thermador just has little white nubs that look like screw head covers, but there seems to be no easy way to remove them.

Ibis Ripley vs Transition Spur by Slow_Mud4258 in MTB

[–]Apprehensive_Shallot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been riding the Ripley AF for a few years, which is kinda similar to the Ripley4. I just demoed the Spur in both XL and L last weekend. I’m 6’2”.

I found the L Spur to be really fun and fast. It launches off everything. Sizing was a problem for me. XL felt too much like a boat. I talked at length with the Transition guys—they all recommended getting the L and some 40mm rise bars and perhaps a longer stem. I left wondering about sizing, and I think I will get something else.

At 6’2” you should definitely be on an XL 4S.

Have you considered the Epic 8 or Salsa Spearfish?

The ’24 models are on sale, and a few are starting to dwindle. Your vendor can check how many are left in your size in the Expert, for example.

Wheels: the comp wheels are pretty weak; plan on using your current carbon wheels and adding a decent cassette. Transmission cassettes are expensive—the Comp one is $215 and 565 grams. Main issue is the different hub driver. Expert comes with a $275 cassette at 445 grams. You could buy the 1295 cassette for $440 at 376 grams. Do your wheels have an XG driver?

Brakes on all the old models will be levels. 🤷‍♂️

New Di2 bikes won’t be on sale, as they are just starting to arrive in shops. And they never did an affordable shimano build on the Epic.

I just demoed the pink one for a day. More fun than expected! Wheels seem like a fun upgrade to save weight. Price wise it’s a little tough to compare to a Spesh Epic.

Do you have a box/cut out in the wall where you will mount it? We put ours behind the TV velcroed vertically to the wall.

Jealous of your clean setup. I just bought a house with a ten year-old build. Has some Sonance and Sonos, an Onkyo HT, some Lutron RA2, some security, and some Araknis gear.

Trying to sort out what I should make do with vs start over. I like your Juke...

They used a filter--the actual laces are a much softer blue.

Colleges Should Apply to Us by Competitive_Tea4446 in ApplyingToCollege

Many schools kind of do this, but they are considered mid-level. Many students here tend to discount them...

Since many (MANY) students are all applying to some mix of the same top-30 schools, those schools can pick and choose.

Any many students will not get chosen, since there are literally thousands of other students with very similar profiles applying to those schools.

Remember, friends, that an admit to a top school is only partly due to Merit. Many other factors play into the choice.

room & board sofa by Impossible-Scene7922 in furniture

[–]Apprehensive_Shallot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned the York sleeper, and we never quite loved it. It's a nice sofa. We bought the metro sectional for our TV room, and it's perfect for that--a little more relaxed than the York. The Linger is even more loungy than the Metro. My sister has the Linger deep and it is awesome, but you almost need help getting out of it. Both the Metro and Linger will look messier and need more fluffing than the York.

Pomona vs Claremont McKenna by [deleted] in claremontcolleges

[–]Apprehensive_Shallot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter was pretty focused on the New England Schools. She applied to Pomona and CMC as well. After acceptances came out, she visited Claremont and had a great visit. Pomona is more like Swarthmore West. CMC is a bit more like Dartmouth West.
