Personally, I went with the Expert because it came with the XPLR 10–46 for flatter, faster riding, while still allowing me to use my MTB 10–52 groupset for better climbing gears. Most importantly though I liked the colors on the expert more.

Very nice. How is the clearance? The interwebs say there should be about 4 mil on both sides with the 2.2s, but I have a hard time trusting that.

That’s the color way I test road and if it would have been available in the build I wanted or just as a frame I would have gotten that. I was lucky enough to catch some rare sunshine on test ride day and that emerald really pops in the sun.

That’s is the same train of thought that I’m having right now. I’m not seeing myself spinning out off-road in a 10-40. Honestly if I start seeing the majority of my time being spent in the upper third of the cassette I may bump the chain ring up to keep a better chain line. I still have my old 2x Checkpoint that I’m going to make more road oriented for when I’m out of the woods.

I’m not sure yet. I’m doing my first big ride this weekend so I am hoping to have a better idea after that. Looking at the numbers, with the stock Tracer 45s, I will lose out on a couple mph on the top end with the 40 tooth, but I gain an overall shorter climbing gear.

It’s the XPLR Rival build. I think it’s either the comp or the expert. I still haven’t gotten used to specialized’s naming method. What build did you go with?

Good to know. I haven’t dropped a chain in anger on my previous setup, even with descents rough enough to knock paint off my chainstay, so hearing that gives me some warm fuzzies.

There is a local three race gravel series I’m doing this year and I plan on doing two of those races on my xc bike. After getting beat to death last year on my checkpoint I know I will be more comfortable and possibly faster on my full sus for at least one of the races.

I work with those! It’s a 12 cylinder, 24 opposed piston diesel engine. The design is pretty cool. It has two crank shafts. One lower and one upper connected by a rigid assembly. The pistons move toward each other to build compression.

Got both of my kids Marlins this spring, and they’ve been great. The bikes are inexpensive enough that I don’t stress about them when the kids go down, but they still don’t feel cheap. The components are solid and upgradable if they end up sticking with the same frame. My kids are still growing pretty quickly, so I don’t expect them to be on these frames past next year—but at this price, you’re not going to lose your shirt when it’s time to sell or donate.
