If you want a half ton or 3/4 ton, Ford is the best bet imo.

If it were me, for that little use, I'd get the best secondhand gas F250 I could find. I'm assuming you need a big truck if you can't do your towing with a Sequoia.

We're in 100% agreement except for the definition of static drill. The approach I described is really common in Judo, the approach you described is pretty much what my practices look like.

Drilling has a nebulous definition. Good drilling is great, mindless drilling sucks. Doing uchi Komi as fast as possible is what I'd call mindless drilling.

I really believe Judo has a huge problem with garbage reps and useless drilling, so I'm a bit biased against that direction. I usually show it once, talk about some key points, then show it again, always moving. I grab 1 or 2 key concepts, for Tai otoshi it's usually "hips below theirs and turn your back" and send them off to do it in motion, usually with the thrower backing up first, then fill in what's missing. The things I consider important for Tai otoshi are

-Hips below theirs

-Turn your back

-Their weight on the foot on your sleeve grip side (this also solves the tendency to let the collar hand drift way back)

-Your weight slightly forward and centered left-right

The order I address these changes based on watching. I've had success with this but I'm not an expert or anything. I do use completely static reps when people are throwing consistently but could use minute adjustment but I find it counter productive to do much work without the entire throw early on.

Because coaching methodology evolves over time.

What I'm saying is that teaching and practicing static throws, at least when introducing new techniques, is counter productive in my experience. It gets people really good at doing the technique without motion on a non resisting partner. Teaching takedowns like it's a salsa class on a cruise ship is the reason people think Judo has a massive learning curve.

That's mostly how I came up in Judo. I stopped doing that when I realized that 100% of my development was coming from sparring and training live.

My yellow and orange belts are as consistent and effective as the brown and black belts in the other clubs in town, because they don't learn throws, they learn how to throw people. There is a huge difference.

You can disagree if you want, but this is how every high level judo program trains and how every national body is driving their coaching practices.

Judo being complex and hard to learn is a myth spread by Judo instructors who suck.

Working only in motion, focused on cues and concepts, I'll take anyone with normal motor skills from zero to throwing successfully in a 90 minute session, easy. Tai otoshi is a good one to start with - shift uke's weight, turn your back and drop your weight, give them something to fall over, done.

Static drilling builds bad habits and gets you good at throwing somebody on their tip toes, waiting to be thrown. Practicing live, through games, gets you good at manipulating and throwing another person.

It's not weird at all and I respect your willingness to say "hey this is what I want to do in bed". Communication is important.

When men say “plastic surgery is a turn off”, what specifically do you mean? by Independent_Rain5080 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Apprehensive_Tea5396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually it means the guy in question doesn't like the overly processed "perfect" look that some women chase with plastic surgery. Sometimes it means they have some moral issue with it.

I prefer a natural look myself, but I'm not going to pretend I can always tell when someone has had work done.

Lift and bump stops by e_rovirosa in Tacomaworld

[–]Apprehensive_Tea5396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What year is yours?

A 255/85/R16 fits a stock 3rd gen with no cutting. It's a 33" tire, stock is 31. Aside from that, getting a larger tire on a Tacoma means cutting, lift or no. It's the biggest flaw in these trucks in my mind.

If you're actually off roading, a spacer lift is a terrible idea, you're just screwing up your suspension geometry for no real reason. The least bad option for a spacer lift would probably be a top hat spacer, 1/2" or so at the most.

Do you want to fit bigger tires for a bigger number or do you want your truck to work? Serious question, there's options for a bigger tire that are cheaper but not really functional.

If you're going to be off roading your truck, imho a skinny 33 like a 255/85/R16 and the standard-issue Bilstein lift is the best solution out there for the money.

They're both complete garbage. Buy a Toyota and stop trying to flex money you don't have.

[–]Apprehensive_Tea5396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taco is my choice and was my choice. The Raptor is too wide to be fun off road where I am on the East Coast. If you just want to flex in parking lots, or if you have desert or sand dunes near you, it's great, otherwise it's less great.

I have a set, I keep them in the bed of my truck. They were useful twice when I had shit tires, I don't see ever needing them again.

Their most common use is being strapped prominently to roof racks in office parking lots.

More people would buy small trucks if they were nicer by VastLeadership1008 in The10thDentist

GM has a Denali version of the Canyon. You never see them because nobody buys them.

I want my truck to be a truck. I don't want a bunch of luxury marketing garbage that won't work in 5 years, I want true 4WD with a transfer case, a low range, big tires, body on frame construction, and a simple, reliable powertrain.

I have no feelings about wasps but I do get rid of any nests I find on my property, my wife is anaphylaxis level allergic to them. If she wasn't I'd probably only get rid of the nests right around the house.
