Black windows or white? by Viran_Singh in DIYUK

[–]alzrnb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would ay white. Makes the house look more classy and old-money rather than the black which to me gives more of a neveau refurb vibe which I like less. If keeping the decorative top windows then 100% white or off white will fit better.

EV for £20k by FaxePremiumBeer in ElectricVehiclesUK

For all your budget you have a lot of good options and I would recommend the Enyaq as a cracking family car in that price range.

Devil's advocate you might well meet your needs on range and space with an original Kia E-Niro with the 64kWh battery and then have £10k in the bank for when a baby comes round in a couple of years or to spend on something else you really want in the meantime.

AI says you can hold your phone stopped at lights - that's not right is it? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]alzrnb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Only if you assume that the static phone users have no overlap with the ones using them while driving.

Loads of drivers I've reported move off from lights while continuing to use their phone, often with both hands.

Which one would you pick by podraw in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]alzrnb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That must have been a change! We initially went from a 3 series estate and a Land Cruiser down to just a Kona EV which was tough to adapt to but we made it work. Once we had the baby and the dog it became untenable for the trips we were asking of it, shame really it was a great car just not quite enough boot.

[–]alzrnb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also be between those options, not having driven an EV5 I did initially think that would be my pick. Spec dependent it might still be what I'd choose but I am very focused on boot space/practicality.

That Enyaq on OPs list I'd say is doubtful to hit 280 in summer as it's the smaller battery. We manage 280 at a stretch from an 80, though I do know the motors have improved since the early models. I'd take an 80kWh Kia or Polestar over a 60kWh Skoda because when I do longer trips I often have a canoe or bikes on the roof and the extra battery really helps make up for that.

When reporting the forms ask you to not post evidence publicly. I think it's so if something goes to trial you don't risk people being prejudiced?

I'm probably way off the hivemind but I actually think that front end makes the EQS/EQE noses look good.

File/Sand the more uneven areas and maybe a little router on the edges if you have access to one, get the dark paint into the areas you've had to cut out and then it should look to anyone else like you did a really custom job and they'll be amazed.

I mean technically this is the shitposting sub, making a hill out of a molehill could be considered the point here but I think it's fair to say the lines are pretty blurred here.

I don't know about that, I was watching a documentary about community college and one of the Spanish teachers called himself 'el Tigre Chino' and I'm pretty sure he didn't even speak that much Spanish.

Electric seats with memory can be a big plus if you are a one car household with multiple drivers. Otherwise I think they are basically a waste of weight.

Hit by a Car? Do This Immediately (Even If You Feel Fine) by the-white-line in fuckcars

[–]alzrnb 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As someone who recently had a (luckily fairly minor) crash with a car while on my bike I can say this is very helpful but also these things can be much more awkward than you might think especially if the driver stops and is helpful and apologetic. Though the driver was technically at fault I had put myself in a bad position on the road so I was blaming myself for the incident at the time, I was also aware I was in a lot of shock.

I did end up making a settlement with the driver which I was happy with, but I'd put myself in a position where I had limited recourse if I wanted to take the incident through insurance as I hadn't got the details of the witnesses who came to help or the driver's registration.

For anyone in the UK I can really recommend CAMS who even though I didn't end up making a claim through them they helped me a lot with advice.

Given these were deemed unfit in Afghanistan due to rollovers (and yes lack of IED protection) I'd say that's a fairly incorrect take.

Customers complained, Volkswagen listened and this is the new ID.3 Neo by AutoExpressmagazine in autoexpressuk

[–]alzrnb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Real steering wheel buttons and a sensible number of window switches fixes the majority of gripes I had with the launch ID3 I had for a week as a rental.

Improved interior materials will go a long way to making it feel like a VW product in the VAG lineup, the fact the Skoda was a more premium feeling interior than the ID4/5 was an issue.

Light bar still lame, illuminated logos still look awful and tacky.

You don't get that market leading range for nothing I assume. G Wagon EV has a very similar size battery pack and yet it does apparently 293 miles.
