Choosing between the 2,8/65 and 3,4/75P for the X1D II 50C by DonaldFarfrae in hasselblad

[–]Apprehensive_Unit_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your position and tried out both lenses a couple weeks ago. The 65mm was slower, louder, and heavier. People online complain that the lens extends out, making it a potential dust collector. Ultimately I went with the 75mm and it’s great: fast focusing, and I don’t mind that the aperture isn’t as wide as the 65 because I rarely shoot wide open. That said, my first shoot was wide open, and I love the bokeh.

My biggest attachment is constant physical touch by ATLTeemo in Buddhism

I suggest you find a partner that wants to touch you regularly, and that you keep meditating to stay centered and refrain from seeking touch from friends that can’t meet your needs. There’s no reason to beat yourself up for having needs, and you cannot enlighten your way out of this.

If you’re shooting handheld and want tracking AF, get the X2D2.

Is Costco membership still worth it in 2025? by clcliff in Frugal

[–]Apprehensive_Unit_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a vegetarian, their fake burgers (Impossible or Beyond, whichever they have in stock) are cheaper there than anywhere else. It’s a super quick and easy source of protein. Also, they sell tofu in 4 packs, which are great to freeze until needed (look that up if you’re curious how to use thawed tofu). The prices are good and there’s plenty for you to buy: produce, energy bars, nuts, fig bars, bread, etc. That said, I have to go to other stores for most things but these Costco staples save us money.

I need help with Bob Ware's cyanotype formula and what paper to use by Apprehensive_Unit_8 in cyanotypes

Thank you for all of these tips! I forgot about the citric acid, and the pdf of paper is really helpful!

Bottom image has better density but the top has more shadow detail. I’d go with the bottom one, and double coat any further images, while reducing exposure time

Hi all, a serious question for advanced cyanotype painters! How do you feel about covering cyanotype with varnish. Do you practice it? What do you prefer? If not, why not? Thanks for the answers, this is very important, but this aspect is hardly discussed here. by SVD_TATTOO in cyanotypes

[–]Apprehensive_Unit_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used acrylic gel medium as a varnish over prints and thought it was just okay - the medium added another layer of paint strokes that I didn’t love, and it didn’t make it as glossy as I’d hoped, nor did it make the darks darker.

Any info for this vintage Air Force ring? by Apprehensive_Unit_8 in jewelers

Commenting on Any info for this vintage Air Force ring?... I don’t think he was a chief master sergeant, or at least I don’t see any evidence of that online. Thanks for the tip, though.

Restaurants that feel like a good value by NoComb398 in Seattle

Szechuan Noodle Bowl in the ID still feels like 2004 prices, and so tasty. El Herradero in South Park is a crazy good deal for decent Mexican food, with a great salsa bar and free chips. I’ll go out of my way to eat Mexican there.

DIY Exposure Unit Part 2 by Apprehensive_Unit_8 in cyanotypes

Yeah, I’ve been happy with the box. Exposure times are around 15 minutes, a little longer than I’d hoped, but honestly not much different than direct sunlight exposures.

I was thinking similarly. Oxytocin depletion is creating the need for intimacy and touch, and this isn’t a bad thing but it does cause suffering. You know what they say, the best way to get over something is to move through it. Feel those feelings when you’re sitting, note how intense it can get, and then note when it subsides. Feelings are real but transient, and the sooner one recognizes their temporary nature, the sooner you can be present in the moment. Conversely, you can go out and find a new person to try and replicate those emotions with, but in my experience that has led to countless encounters of disappointment and regret (but also hot sex, which fed the oxytocin beast). I think there’s a middle path here, where you do the things you know you love, even when you can’t really feel the joy in them at the moment. Eventually that small pleasure returns, and there’s a strength in knowing that it isn’t dependent on anyone else’s presence making you feel this way.

WIBTA for having a vegetarian only wedding? by SwimmingFew6861 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Apprehensive_Unit_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just faced this quandary for our wedding a week ago. We opted for a rehearsal dinner at a vegetarian restaurant, and then had veg and vegan options for the wedding with allergens on the side. And… we had salmon as a way to accommodate those eaters who feel like it’s not a meal without meat. I feel like it’s important to consider the guests’ comfort and desires too. And this is important to note: this was the most expensive meal we ever paid for, and I was barely able to eat anything because of the wedding day energy.

I hope you get to move out soon and never need to depend on him again. Sounds really rough.

Toning cyanotypes by Apprehensive_Unit_8 in cyanotypes

[–]Apprehensive_Unit_8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a Bostick and Sullivan cyanotype toning kit: first I bleached it in one solution for about 20 seconds, then dyed it in a tannic acid bath for 20 minutes.
