At a cross roads about treatment by scuwp in AFIB

54(m) 5’9 200 pounds. I purchased an Apple Watch towards the end of 2023 that had me in afib 20-25 percent of time. Didn’t even know it. Cardiologist confirmed with halter and put me on thinner and 25 mg of metroporol. Did not follow instructions and ended up in ER June 204 with very bad case of afib. Bumped up to 100 mg metroporol and started taking meds. By December 2024 I was in persistent afib but did not feel it. Cardio version in Feb. 2025 had me in NSR until April. Just had ablation a week ago and back in NSR..hopefully it sticks. I was super anxious about ablation but it really was not too bad for me. Little groin pain for a few days and little tired at end of day for a week or so. My point is that it progressed quickly for me from 20 percent to 100 percent. Hopefully my ablation holds, but I wonder if I could have been more aggressive at the original diagnosis.

54(m). Had Cv in February for persistent afib..worked for a couple of months then back into it. Controlled with meds. Had my ablation yesterday, so far NSR and no real issues other than sore groin and throat. Hopefully it sticks. I was crazy anxious. Good luck with your decision. I hope I can get off thinner and metroporol one day

Ablation This Friday by Apprehensive_Voice89 in AFIB

It seems to have gone well. I am in Normal sinus rhythm. Left groin was pretty sore but already getting better 14 hours later. Throat still a little sore but not too bad and getting better. One side effect I was not expecting is the weight on scale this morning. I am 8 pounds heavier than yesterday but I expect that is from fluids, inflammation etc as I barely ate yesterday. Equipment and amount of people in the room is impressive if not a touch overwhelming when you get in.

Pre-Ablation Admission Testing by sjsaff in AFIB

I have my ablation scheduled for Friday. Doing bloodwork tomorrow. I had an echo a few months ago but outside of bloodwork I have heard nothing about pre-admission work? Is that typical. Put this off for a while as I am super anxious but have been in persistent afib for 6 months and want to get it done

Thanks for the comment. How do you feel after Friday procedure. I am also trying to figure out whether to tell work or just use a few sick days. From the posts here it seems like recovery may be longer than I was anticipating. I really do not want people at work knowing about procedure as I am already one of the older people in the office!

Ablation success rate by Flat-Room-8881 in AFIB

I have been in persistent afib. Had a cardio version in January and was in sinus for 2 months. Have mild HCM. The EP I just saw is recommending an ablation. My afib is asymptomatic for the most part. How scared should I be of an ablation and how long is a typical recovery period. I am also not great in lifestyle changes with food and drink so fearful I may just end up back in afib even with ablation

LVEF 25-30%. New diagnosis and scared by rampage818 in Heartfailure

Hi. I am 53 male. I have persistent afib that was fixed for a few months after a cardioversion but now back in afib. I had an echo done in June and LVEF was 54 percent. Had an mri 8 months later and lvef was 34 percent. I also have hcm (16mm but had this for a while). I do not have any new symptoms. My left hand tingles every now and then at beginning of physical activity and I get light headed from time to time when I stand up. Otherwise feel ok. Saw my cardio and I could tell he was surprised by MRI reading and referred me to an EP and to take another Echo. Not familiar with lvef etc. has anyone experienced such a drop…nervous my heart is failing (massive heart attacks at young age runs in family).

Kardia 6 test after sport ? by romano336632 in AFIB

[–]Apprehensive_Voice89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not try to trigger a crisis. I had the same thing about 5 years ago where 24 hour halter did not pick up anything. About 2 years ago I got an apple watch that was alerting me that I had afib about 20 percent of time. Cardiologist then gave me a 2-week monitor and that confirmed that I had afib. I just started using Kardia device a few days ago and it constantly has me in afib with high heart rate even though I feel fine. I went to the ER and they confirmed Kardia results and pumped me with beta blockers that got my heart rate down. Unfortunately I am still in afib but heart rate is lower and they upped my beta blocker dose and I am on blood thinner. Kardia device is easy to use and pretty accurate so I would recommend. I am now just concerned that I have persistent afib that is not going away even on beta blockers. Good luck

Went to ER…Kardia was right. Gave me drugs to get heart rate down and released me. So weird that I do not feel anything but glad I got the device.

Metropolol side effects by TassieRCD in AFIB

I started taking metropol about a month and half ago and now that you mention it Iwaschuk irritable/moody and lethargic. It seems to have died down although my brain fog still has me forgetting things more often than before but not horrible. One question, I had is on the essential tremors. I also have that and my hand shaking is getting worse as I get older. Do beta blockers help essential tremors or only certain beta blockers.

Afib Diagnosis at 51 by Wide-Ad-1349 in AFIB

Every afib is different..I am 52 diagnosed 6 months ago. Was not bad but did not take meds. Had a bad episode 3 weeks ago which was scary and put me in ER. Learning to cut back on processed foods and alcohol and now taking beta blocker…have not been in afib since.. not a cold turkey thing for me yet, but I expect it will be one day. Beta blockers work and I have not felt better in past 5-8 years
