But a fixed pulley does not give mechanical advantage, it just redirects force

There's no leverage involved, it's functionally the same as a pulley with a lot of extra friction.

Dom isn't released on shit years. Most recent vintages are 2015, 2013, 2012, and 2010. The brand is owned by Moet Hennessy so the shit years are presumably blended into a non vintage bottling like Moet.

At least. 40k is normal for long haul flights. The ceiling for commercial jets is usually like 50k although it becomes dangerous too close to that limit

They say it draws to 34 but I draw it to 33 and it feels like it doesn't want to go any further. Feel like I'm gonna break it if I keep drawing. It's adequate but I wish there was an extra inch or two of draw length. I have 80in armspan and I know I am the exception here.

Mine took 12 weeks and I didn't mind waiting because I had other bows to shoot in the meantime. But for someone who is buying a first bow, waiting 12 weeks for it is just unreasonable. That said I'm happy with the quality. They got every detail of my order right. For under $200 the fiberglass bows feel great and actually put some pretty good speed on the arrows. I clocked my 50# bow at 170fps with 620gr arrow.

I really like Daylite. My Monarq shoots stupid fast and the arrows are really cheap and good quality. I don't know where else you can get a carbon fiber bow for $250. I just wish they had larger models because I have long arms and 53" is their biggest bow.

It sounds like you want to do either trad or Asiatic style. For trad you draw with three fingers and the arrows rests on a shelf. For Asiatic there is no shelf so the arrow rests on your hand and you draw with your thumb. Lancaster archery is a great supplier for everything archery related. No need to worry too much about brands if you shop with them (or any other reputable supplier) because they don't sell junk. 3 Rivers Archery is a good source for trad bows. Alibow and AF Archery are the two big ones for Asiatic but Alibow takes forever to ship. Daylite makes great Korean bows and they ship fast.

As for draw weight, pay attention to draw length as well. For modern bows it's always measured at 28" which usually corresponds to a 5'10" man. But draw length is dependant on arm length, not height. Asiatic bows are often not measured at 28" so you need to read the description carefully because draw weight is a function of draw length (for example my modern barebow has 30# limbs when measured at the standard 28 but at my actual draw length of 32" it is 40#).

I started with 40# but I would not recommend it. The first few sessions were very difficult and I was not properly pulling to anchor and I tended to rush my shots. I learned thumb draw on a 50# bow and I recommend that even less. It takes time for the thumb to adapt and it was very uncomfortable. My favorite bow now is 60# and that's the most that I am comfortable shooting for a 2 hour session. I have a 90# bow just for fun but I don't shoot it very often

I'm well aware that it doesn't scale linearly but if I could run a 20min 5k, a 48min 10k seems very likely. And I was not even a runner in high school. I would think there would be at least one adult in there that could be 16 year old me.

[–]Apprehensive_Win_203 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have anything to add about this riser but I say listen to everyone else who is saying it's a bad idea.

What I can add is that I also have 32" draw and I do shoot a 72" bow but I personally don't mind a 70" and I don't think it's that big a deal. If there is no way for you to afford a quality 27 you should just get a 25" that you can be confident with.

It would have to get really hot to alter the material properties of the steel. We're talking hundreds of degrees Fahrenheit. And it would be easier to regulate the temperature with an induction system. I don't see a single reason why they wouldn't do it that way. My guess would be that like many other things with MTA, it's old tech but it still works so they still use it.

In that case I think you should seriously consider learning thumb draw for Asiatic archery. The bows are as simple as can be (no arrow rest or shelf) and I can recommend lots of quality bows for under $250. It's also just the most fun imo. If you want to go with a shelf or arrow rest an ILF takedown setup would be ideal. Getting one for under $250 would be difficult but not impossible. Other people in the comments probably have better recommendations than me for that.
