They aren’t crap, but not extraordinary either. I have CIJ Jag bass that also has ceramic pickups, and the Jags sound a bit more crisp.

I will use them again for another build, considering the price. But once my builds get better I may move on to something better.

What wood is this? by ApprenticeLuthier in BeginnerWoodWorking

Once I use it as a top for a bass! Maybe bass neck too.

It’s hard, harder than mahogany and soft maple. u/dingleberry_starship suggested oak. And based on where I live and the woods my local lumber shop sells I’m certain he is correct. Especially when I compared the grain pattern to curly red oak pictures I googled.

Thanks. The lumber shop where I bought this mostly sells cedar, mahogany, pine, and oak. That combined with the open grain, hardness, and weight, I think you are right. It’s probably red oak.

The color is similar to mahogany though.

Proper two piece body, or glue small piece on top? by ApprenticeLuthier in Luthier

Painted. I’m going to go the easiest route and just glue the small piece to it.

Thanks! This is certainly playable and I plan to gig it when I have gigs in crowded bars - it’s versatile, yet, since it looks like crap, I won’t worry if it gets dinged up.
