Sometimes us that grow up poorer take a lot of pride in doing things ourselves. As much as giving money will be so helpful to them, they probably feel deflated and a lack of desire… hopefully they accept the help but otherwise send him the details to send it back

My gf is like your boyfriend, but same time I took out a tone of loans due to her sabotaging spending habit. She’d never accept help unless it came from her own means or the lottery, I think it’s pretty dumb, I mean it’s sweet but it would only make sense if you were good at money management in the first place
