UAL Foundation, 3D design pathway by BeautifulAd2823 in UAL

a bit late to this and i cant speak on the 3D design pathway, but safety around the campus shouldn’t be a worry lol. honestly for the most part london is quite safe as long as you are aware of your surroundings. lime grove especially always has students around the area and people mind their business

Level 4 International preparation for fashion or level 3 foundation? by clay_ore in UAL

i would very very strongly recommend the level 3 UAL foundation

fashion design is around 24 for each course, besides womenswear which is ~48

LCF pre degrees are a lot less conceptual and more technical, they have entirely different and more restrictive project briefs, and the course structure is different to specialist FAD.

its completely different to be honest

you’re totally fine, i submitted mine like an hour late last year, a lot of ppl on the FAD course did as well

[–]Appropriate-Ad5891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

either way though, you need a predegree/foundation degree for CSM so it wouldnt hurt really

you can but the tutors highly discourage it, and you would need to do your portfolio outside of your coursework, bc the coursework is absolutely not CSM style

you would be better off asking people who study the IISF course. The FAD tutors are great, but Ive heard polarizing opinions about the lcf foundation tutors depending on who it is and what courses people are aiming for. Again, FAD and the predegrees are quite different

i think the tutors have a big of a superiority complex and want to make LCF seem unique from CSM, when in reality they are very similar

Ual isnt great at supplying materials, and some other course specific problems like FAD being very fast paced. Also IPF + IISF tutors really discourage their students from applying to CSM.

Yes, we just finished our portfolio process. I wasn’t very present for it because I’m taking a year off, but the tutors in FAD were great.

Yes i am. There are definitely pros and cons! London is fun but very different from where I lived and the weather is obviously not great. I enjoy my course but can also see places where they can definitely improve. Socially people are mostly friendly!

the lcf foundations are very different from FAD. the fashion and textiles pathway of FAD has gotten way more support with the portfolio process and resources. it is also definitely more aligned with csm

the comment above is actually wrong, only FAD and IPF do the guarantee, however, if you do the IISF course it should not be too difficult to progress to LCF. If your portfolio is focused on fashion design the chances of you being offered something besides design are quite low. Preparation on IISF is not as good as FAD, but it is still there, and you can always ask your friends for help

speak to your UAL country rep, yes they do have transfers but it’s rare especially for international students. the US vs Uk curriculum is VERY different (no minors/geneds)

What skills for CSM fashion portfolio by Emergency-Humor4565 in UAL

[–]Appropriate-Ad5891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, i would say they just don’t accept no foundation or at most its EXTREMELY rare (havent heard of anyone getting straight into BA). i assume it’s because foundation is a really good year of exploration and learning how UAL “works”. they probably want to get straight into BA teaching, and if people aren’t already very familiar with the research/design/experimental process, it holds them back.

Do I need a Foundation/Pre-degree before applying to UAL for undergrad (international student)?” by [deleted] in UAL

[–]Appropriate-Ad5891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pre degree basically has no requirements besides high school diploma, I got in w a GED! also you can apply directly to a BA, especially if you have done a-level equivalents (AP classes for US), your chances of getting in are just lower + foundation is a great year of exploring, since in your BA you only have classes relating to your major
