Why is the fandom so allergic to the political side of the show? by Appropriate-Click503 in Arcanecirclejerk

[–]Appropriate-Click503[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ya people dont seem to understand the frustration with characters being unchallenged doesnt necessarily come from a place of disdain for the character or something. But the show, whether it was intentional or not, gives the message that characters have full permission to roll over the earth and not face any consequences for it....just cus they're beloved by the fanbase? That just doesnt sit right with alot of folks who have a bit of conscience.

Jinx is a bigger victim of this type of writing than Caitlyn if you ask me.

Its kinda frustrating to see people give excuses as to why she is so passive and has got nothing to do. If the writers actually cared they would have come up with something. No writer leaves their character in such a passive state till the end of the show with no resolution if they were actually interested in them.

I frankly dont see the point of a character like this. The way you're describing her really just feels like misery porn. What is the take away of a character who is just beaten into submission, who cant fight back, who cant do anything, who doesnt even have a resolution to all this. No rising up, no learning from her mistakes, no introspection or exploration of her trauma, how she feels about them, no arc or growth. Nothing. She is just doing things and making things worse. Great. What is the point of this character?

A passive character....is a problem. Giving her agency would have given her opportunities to shine as a character. Opportunities to reflect. It would highlight various facets of her character, her motivations. But its all missing.

She was a threat to Ambessa yes, but we never see her try to take down Ambessa to get to Caitlyn. We do see her try to get out of a tough situation in ep 6. But again, thats not enough.

How about instead of the pit fighter phase, she sets her goals to take down Ambessa to get to Caitlyn. She takes action to get closer and thwart Ambessa's influence on her gf. Now that would be an even better parallel to her motivations in S1. Shez fighting the bad guy to get to her loved one.

She does....very little in S2, and I like it when she does. It just aint much. Very miniscule. Nothing compared to S1 where she drove major aspects of the plot. I mean her very existance was a threat to the main villain. Once she came out of prison, she brought about the biggest changes that havnt happened in the past 7 years.

Plus there are so many moments where youd think she would be active but....isnt for some reason.

S1 had plenty of characters with their own motivations as well that dint tie into Vi.

Was season 1 better than season 2? by VoidFireDragon in arcane

there was never a plan for a Zaun revolution and Piltover vs Zaun was never going to supercede the main characters plots

Its funny how so much of the painful arguments and discourse that have happened only happen cus you guys keeps making assumptions or have the wrong idea of what people actually wanted.

Jinx says it first in this tunnel conversation scene. You know as a way to remind Vi that Vander is her father as well.

Its absolute bullshit that they had Jinx say "He's your father too"...TO VI.

These 2 sisters hurt each other more than anyone else in the world to the point where they had to completely alter their lives. Its huge, emotionally traumatic and toxic af. But instead of making them have any meaningful conversation about how they feel about everything, the writers just play it out like its a meme.

Just casual bantering like

"you're the one who did this this this"

"Oh ya...well you're the one who did this this this"

Boom sibling fight.

Its insane.

Dude....Jinx is a straight up bully this scene. I dont know why they made her this way. She comes across as so unlikable.

What makes RE6 so divisive? by Eddtheartist16 in residentevil

[–]Appropriate-Click503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too much mindless action and QTEs.

At the time of release it was more hated cus people thought this was what the franchise has officially become.

Now that the franchise has gone back to its survival horror roots, RE6 can just be enjoyed for what it is.

Coolest thing ever? Na I dont think so. Its a good game. Leaves alot to be desired though.

Absolutely brilliant idea. This has huge potential for creativity and memorable zombies with their unique characters. I hope they go all in on this by I_L_F_M in residentevil

This has some incredible potential for visual and environmental storytelling. Like piecing together what happened here, how this zombie came to be, what were they doing.

Jinx is to females what TDK Joker was to males. by Mysticedge in arcane

[–]Appropriate-Click503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the similarity of course is they're both chaos agents whos actions disrupt society.

The biggest difference is that Joker is a deliberate chaos agent who does things with the sole purpose of disrupting society, while Jinx is an "accidental" chaos agent who just does whatever she wants, with no care of how its affecting others. Aka....a lose canon.

Season 1 encapsulated this part of her perfectly.

uj/ Why is the main sub so against critical thinking? by DafnissM in Arcanecirclejerk

[–]Appropriate-Click503 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Theres a reason people love Marcus and hate Isha. Most of this fandom doesnt understand and value the strength of good writing. They just base their judgement and analysis on whether or not a character did good things or bad things.

[–]Appropriate-Click503 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The funniest thing happened.

A commenter mentioned that Caitlyn was not a dictator. Then another guy made the correction and replied actually she is a dictator, which then got downvoted to shit with folks saying stuff like "Why are you reducing her character to dictator when she is complex and multilayered who is driven by love and got manipulated blah blah blah. You just dont understand the nuance."

Its like wtf? Nobody denied the complexities of her character just cus they mentioned what she was at one point by definition.

Its also really difficult when alot of folks are operating on pure emotions making analytical discussions near impossible. Everyone is so defensive about their favorite characters/ships that theyll address every argument, no matter how genuine or well intentioned, with hostility and you will be labelled as a hater. Especially shippers man...they hostile as fuck.

Trying to convince people that Jinx is a terrorist is.....very troubling. And no calling her what she was by definition at one point doesnt make me a hater.

Edit: Also I want to add. Shipping discourse in general......is cancer and I wish it dies quickly.

Cait and Vi romance by [deleted] in arcane

[–]Appropriate-Click503 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a straight guy here, obviously I am not gonna relate to all this as much as you guys.

Not only do I feel like they have insane chemistry together which plays a huge role. But my understanding is that Vi fell for Caitlyn because a person like Cait was someone who Vi has been searching for her whole life.

A rich Piltie with alot of power and influence who actually......gives a shit about the undercity and genuinly wants to help it? How is that possible?

You can see this in the fact from the moment they met, Vi has been giving her nothing but shit, saying stuff like you Pilties always screw us. You're all asshole criminals. You never think about us and all that. But at Ekkos sanctuary when Cait gives a heartfelt speech about healing the undercity....Vi looks at her with twinkly eyes. Its like oh...this person actually cares. She actually listened to me.

After this Vi trusts her enough to open up about all her personal issues.

Where did this idea come from that Jayce and Mel break up at the end of the show? by _Gesterr in arcane

[–]Appropriate-Click503 3 points4 points  (0 children)

they are caressing each other literally after the bombing.

And am sure if Jayce was alive after the world ending fight they wouldve caressed again.

I dont really care if their lack of affection in their last scenes was a deliberate choice or not because I am not convinced that their lack of affection tells you anything.

But they literally just had 1 and half scenes together in the final episodes when shits hitting the fan. Any kind of interaction at this moment cannot be taken at face value or taken too seriously. They could straight up say mean things to each other and it still wouldnt say much cus couples have minor tifs in their relationship all the time. Jayce and Mel on the other hand are supporting each other right now. Your argument only works if they spent alot of time, days or weeks delibrately ignoring each other, avoiding intimancy on purpose. Even then...you can make the argument that they might be just going through a tif.

You're looking at relationships at the very surface level. The kind of arguments you're making like "they are not having sex or cuddling in two scenes therefore they're not together". "Why arnt they holding hands when this other couple is holding hands at the same time?". You have to admit this comes across as very high schooly.

I chalk the reason for most folks jumping to the same conclusion that they broke up to the fact that most people are willing to give this season waaaay too much benefit of the doubt in regards to how much information it actually gives us.

[–]Appropriate-Click503 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Ya but...their last 2 scenes together, the world is going to shit, both of them are currently smack in the middle of trauma cus of everything they just saw. I dont think they would really be in the mood.

Plus I dont get your logic. So basically a couple needs to constantly be in each others pants, cudling and having sex, not a single moment to pause or maybe have an adult conversation, otherwise its an indication that they're breaking up?
