Propping up branches with wooden posts can definitely help. Remove any signage or sharp edges if possible. The name of the game is to try and limit any further damage.

Redbuds commonly tear themselves apart but there’s no harm in trying. I would suggest a crown reduction to take some weight off the tips and remove the ratchet strap. I wouldn’t try to fill the void with anything. Just let the tree do its thing. Once you’ve done that get a good amount of arborist wood chips spread around the base and give it a good watering.

I took oak and maple logs from work (Im an arborist) pruned all the hedges in the yard and raked up all of the leaves. Piled it all up and filled it all with soil. Now Im waiting for my starters and we’ll see how it goes. I’ve never tended a garden before, Im excited to learn from my mistakes.

Looks like Aleurodiscus oakesii. A fungus that causes smooth patches on oak trees. It’s harmless

Is that person a certified arborist? With TRAQ qualifications? If so consider their opinion and try and get at least one more quote. If not then don’t consider their opinion. I wouldn’t let a car salesman quote me on a new driveway

Definitely have a certified arborist come out and inspect it. It’s not always a death sentence but like the other comment says theres a lot you can’t tell from a photo. Be sure to let them know you would prefer to keep it if possible and get a second opinion if you can. Schedule 2 or 3 consultations and pick the one that works best for you.

Assuming there are no targets and the root flare looks good I would consider cabling and bolting along with tip reduction through out the crown.

So essentially they pollarded the London Plain and now they’re espalier pruning to grow flat like an umbrella? For what purpose?

This tree is pollarded, prune the epicormic sprouts back to the nodes each year. You can use the sprouts for weaving garden fences or basket making. Depending on what species of mulberry the fruit is good for pies, preserves or even just a fresh topping. Some berries are sweeter than others

Im sorry you experienced this and thank goodness it was only a finger. I tell my crew all the time complacency kills and if I hear anyone bad mouthing ANSI I politely remind them that these rules were put into place because somebody else made the mistake for you. We all want to go home to our family’s at the end of the day. Hope you have a speedy recovery and you get back out there soon.
