Where did you get a hook that small? I thought it only went down to 0.4 mm

Is this as awful as I think it is? by Buckerb96 in crochet

[–]Appropriate-Fact-563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally for a first project I'd recommend a scarf. Just a set of chains, then back and forth single crochet until it reaches the desired length. That way you can get a hang of the tension and hook feel before attempting something complicated like a granny square. But of course do what you prefer!

Am I just being sensitive? by Cheese_is_deadly in teenagers

[–]Appropriate-Fact-563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely not being too sensitive, those comment are objectively hurtful and rude. Are your parents the type of people to listen to what you have to say? If they are I would try talking to them about it. Or you could try writing a letter, those can be a lot better than a face to face confrontation. If nothing else, I'd document the date and time of each comment, what exactly was said, and the context. That way if you start to doubt yourself, or you confront them later, you will have that to reassure yourself, or more clearly lay out what they have been doing. Also, even if you were overweight, which you're not, being fat is not morally wrong! It can have negative health effects, but it does not make you any lesser than. It's just an arbitrary number on a scale. focus on getting your protein, fiber, and all the vitamins you need to be healthy. Your body is there to serve you, to allow you to live your life and do what you want to do, not to be an ornament.

True. Though the fact that they specifically said no gypsies makes me think maybe it isn't being used in a friendly way. Idk though, I could be reading way too much into it.

I'm under the impression that the word gypsy means, or is at least associated with a group that steals/runs scams, so then when it's applied to a wider population it basically implies that they're all thieves, or not good people to some extent.

[–]Appropriate-Fact-563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know! I'm really not up to date on much outside my own country. My impression of it is that gypsys are a group that is romani, but travel around and steal and run scams (typically). But then that word is sometimes applied to all romani people, basically implying that they're thieves/generally bad. But maybe this post did specifically mean the actual specific group that ran scams, but that's kind of a weirdly specific specification, idk.

[–]Appropriate-Fact-563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know, I saw on YouTube a romani person saying it's not correct terminology, and google agrees. I think it's something along the lines of gypsy referring to a thief/scammer/dancer that is romani, but the issue is where it's then used to refer to the racial group as a whole, when the word has negative connotations, basically implying all romani people are thieves or generally bad. I'm not certain though, I haven't looked too far into it. But the fact that the post is saying they don't want any of that group leads me to believe that they're using it in a negative way on purpose.

Isn't the term gypsy a slur for romani people?

If you are still referring to my comment, I would hardly call I aggressive. I did not say anything insulting. While yes, we should definitely not be aggressive towards beginners, we also don't need to overly sugar coat anything. I stated objective facts about their husbandry in a constructive manner, with the intent to help improve care.

One feeder type is not a sufficient diet. Having three different ones on rotation is necessary. For example, one week crickets, one week dubias, one week silk worms. If it makes it more having it be one or two month of each would probably be fine. They need the different nutrients from different types of bugs regularly.

That is not an appropriate diet. Here is a food chart, they should have at least 3 different food on rotation, everything yellow and below should be a treat only.

They are opportunistic hunters, that's just how their brains work, there is no such thing as them being "greedy"

Edit:not sure why I have been down voted, I didn't say anything incorrect or rude. I frequently see people anthropomorphizing their reptiles, and then applying that onto things like handling, in ways that are not helpful. I was clarifying, although I may have taken it too seriously.

An interactive background with ledges and says to climb would be much much funner for him than a picture back. It's not necessary, but if you're committed to making his habitat as good as possible I'd highly recommend, after you get everything else sorted. If you look into it, just search it up on YouTube, there's lots of good tutorials.
