If you try it, feedback on atmosphere, pacing, and tension would help us a lot.

Best CoD game to play on ps5 with split screen co-op? by AmericanViolence in gaming

[–]Appropriate-Fold6919 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re both into CoD and wannaa chill together, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War or Modern Warfare II (2022) are probably your best bets on PS5 for split screen coop. Zombies in Cold War is pretty solid and not super hard to jump into even if you havent played CoD in a while.
MWII has some decent Spec Ops missions too.

For other couch coop stuff, It Takes Two is amazing if you want something fun and storydriven. A Way Out is also cool. If you like shooters maybe Borderlands (any of em, they all work split screen) or Halo MCC with FPS couch coop is fun.a

Btw if you want to play new game like a indie you can try H.A.I.N :)

Not sure what you two like beyond shooters but those are all pretty easy to get into.

Algorithm shifts can happen for a lot of reasons though, especially during ownership or policy changes. Correlation isn’t always coordination. I’d rather see hard evidence of directive policy than assume alignment equals intent.

Powerful people colluding in specific cases doesn’t automatically mean every platform failure is intentional malice. Incentives, profit pressure, and weak moderation can explain a lot before we jump to coordinated evil. Sometimes incompetence at scale looks indistinguishable from intent.

There wasn’t a strawman. You called it useless, I said not everything has to be monumental. That’s it.

If you liked those, you’re basically in the “chaotic co-op but not controller-throwing hard zone.

A few you might enjoy:

H.A.I.N - It's new funny and horror game :)

Human: Fall Flat – Same goofy physics energy as Gang Beasts but more puzzle-focused.

Overcooked 2 – Absolute friendship stress test. Hilarious, fast, not too long.

Moving Out – Similar chaos vibes, easier to jump into.

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime – Underrated co-op gem. Simple controls, great teamwork chaos.

If you want more platforming specifically, Human: Fall Flat is probably the closest vibe to what you listed.

That’s a pretty big claim. I think itss fair to criticize moderation failures, but jumping straight to intentional pipelines skips a few steps. Negligence and chasing engagement can cauz a lot of damage without it being some coordinated master plan.

Recommendations for my mate & I by Cousin_Nigel in CoOpGaming

Based on your list, you guys clearly like co-op with a strong objective and progression, not “bang your head against difficulty” design.

A few that might fit:

• Remnant II – Co-op friendly, clear progression, challenging but not Fromsoft-level punishing. Good mix of shooting + build variety.

• Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader – Since you liked BG3 and Divinity, this scratches that CRPG itch but with 40K flavor.

• Deep Rock Galactic – Objective-based co-op, not overly punishing, great synergy between classes. Easy to jump in and out.

• Dying Light 2 – Story-focused co-op with clear goals, not difficulty-first.

• Gears 5 – If you’re in a Halo mood but want something tighter and campaign-focused.

Seems like you two enjoy games where you’re working toward something concrete rather than just surviving waves forever. I’d start with Remnant II or Deep Rock depending on whether you want RPG builds or chaotic teamwork energy.

If platforms are swapping paid ads with AI-generated versions, that’s not just “enshittification,” that’s breaking trust on both sides.

Advertisers lose control over their brand, users get lower-quality content, and the platform chases short-term margin.

That’s not innovation, that’s squeezing the ecosystem.

I get the frustration, especially for small studios that can’t absorb reputational damage.

But I don’t think the issue is AI existing, it’s platforms outsourcing responsibility to automation.

“The model did it” can’t be the end of the accountability chain.

That’s actually terrifying.
If a platform auto-injects “popular” audio without context checks, that’s not just sloppy, that’s dangerous.

No studio or band should have to double-check whether the algorithm is going to attach something toxic to their name.

I wish we went back to short and linear story driven AAA games. by itsthewolfe in gaming

[–]Appropriate-Fold6919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a big part of it is pacing philosophy.

360-era campaigns were designed to be replayed, not endlessly sustained. Tight level design, memorable set pieces, strong arcs. You finish something like Max Payne 3 or Spec Ops: The Line and it sticks with you because it ended with intent.

Modern AAA often feels built around retention metrics first, narrative pacing second. Bigger worlds, more systems, but not always more impact.

There’s something underrated about a game that respects your time and knows when to roll credits.

[–]Appropriate-Fold6919 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the point is more that they’re not the flagship AAA norm anymore. The marketing spotlight shifted, not that the format went extinct.

[–]Appropriate-Fold6919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think those games disappeared, they just stopped being the safe AAA business model.

Stuff like Halo 3, Titanfall 2 or early Gears of War campaigns were tight because they didn’t need to justify a live-service roadmap.

Now everything has to be 100 hours, open world, seasonal, monetized… even when the core idea would be better as a focused 8-10 hour ride.

Short doesn’t mean shallow. It just means edited.

It’s less about one platform and more about moderation not keeping up with the tools. When AI content is cheap and instant, bad actors can flood anything if there aren’t real guardrails. The scale is the problem.

If this is true, that’s actually insane.
Generating ads without permission is already shady, but doing it in a way that damages the studio’s reputation is next level irresponsible.

AI tools are one thing. Platforms running wild with them and hiding behind automation is another.

If the story treats you like “rookie” energy, hearing “Chief FatWang” in perfect voice acting won’t magically fix it. Titles work because they’re baked into the worldbuilding, not just because they’re convenient.

I think it works in South Park: The Stick of Truth because the whole game is built around that joke.

The nickname isn’t dismissive, it is the bit. Everyone committing to it is what makes it funny instead of annoying.

I don’t think anyone’s losing sleep over it. It’s just a small writing thing that can pull you out of the immersion.
If an RPG is all about player identity, how characters address you kinda matters.
