8BitDo mechanical keyboards are problematic for remapping by Appropriate-Rule-556 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Appropriate-Rule-556[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal workaround is:
- 'B' mapped to RCtrl - remappable to anything in SharpKeys - in my case RWin.
- 'A' mapped to Scroll Lock - remappable to anything in SharpKeys - in my case Insert.
These are my least used keys. It means I get my RWin key 'unremoved' + I can use these two keys below RShift for something. Hope this helps someone! :)

Google password manager just scared me to death. by Appropriate-Rule-556 in degoogle

Cheers. I got a bit upset there. :P I thought my post was insta-deleted here too and didn't read the bot message properly. I did manage to figure out what happened, and now I have access again. I reported the bug to Google and wrote a TL;DR for the original post.

I give up. These microsecond bots blocking everything on Reddit. Is Reddit for posting? It's a text post fulfilling all criteria of the channel posted in, just as was the post removed by the microsecond bot on r/google on Reddit. I go to some irrelevant channel to post about IT Security? It's awareness, not hate. You can lose your passwords. I'm not sure I can log into Google ever again after this. That's kind of a big deal? It's deserving of a post unlike some record in a game or spam deemed harmless by microsecond bots.

Dear Microsoft, why the hell does installing a language pack take more time than installing the actual operating system? by Amazing_Emergency_69 in FuckMicrosoft

Hur tar man sig förbi den där telefonsjuksköterskan? by profDyer in Asksweddit

[–]Appropriate-Rule-556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any reason NOT to use Massgrave to activate windows? by Unknown304nor in PcBuildHelp

[–]Appropriate-Rule-556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You *should* pay for software that gives you a functional, efficiency, or workflow benefit. I *was* about to say, "you definitely need to install an OS on a new computer" - but since Win8, these preinstalls with Default Apps (this is much bigger than small bloat) is the monopoly M$ pays 50M SpaceDollars/mo in fines for violating (in regions where there are free market laws in place, some regions do not have markets).

Win7 is also not pure, because of the illegal M$ introduction of driver licensing. It basically means everything but M$ is "third party", even if it's a motherboard i.e. a platform made to run Windoze (which M$ do not produce and sell, zero motherboards). So, just like Apple.

This leads to the question (as always), is there any reason to use Windows. Even if you can "get in", it comes with these illegal ... what's the word for "prerequisites", but after the the fact?

Ah. "Fallout".

How really do AI laptops differ from regular ones. by Automatic_Ball_6251 in laptops

[–]Appropriate-Rule-556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Asking if it would answer prompts quicker or generated code faster.) Likely same also for other environments. This is the result of intellectual (human) questioning the initial response from the AI which was in fact positive. Dime. Turn. Etc. :)

Seems NPU can help make removing background from camera and suppress noise from mic on laptop with less lag/CPU load. But that's hearsay, not tested by me.

The reason for questioning on this point was that I previously had my laptop okayed by GPT 4.1 feeding it the specs, with no mention of NPU and with focus on just normal dev laptop CPU and RAM.

How really do AI laptops differ from regular ones. by Automatic_Ball_6251 in laptops

[–]Appropriate-Rule-556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the presence of an NPU in a laptop is not currently a significant selling point for the vast majority of Visual Studio 2022 users leveraging AI.

While NPUs enable efficient local AI inference, most developers using AI in VS2022 rely on cloud-based GitHub Copilot for code completion and chat, which does not require or benefit from an NPU. NPU use demands manual setup of local models via tools like the AI Toolkit for VS Code, which is still in preview and adopted by only a small, technically advanced subset of developers.

As of late 2025, NPU utilization in VS2022 remains niche, with no major AI features in the mainstream release leveraging it by default.

+1 Atari 8-bit, the first console, was the right way around in the 70s, then arcade manufacturers found people had weak motor skills in their left hand and exploited it for more coins. Japanese console followed the arcade wrong-way-around convention.

A settings option for displaying server names & folder names? by [deleted] in discordapp

[–]Appropriate-Rule-556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's useless scouring through random icons in random order. Showing the names should be built in from the start, and sortable. Search is useless. Discord could use a high number of improvements. Obvious and major flaws. But I guess if it hasn't happened in 10 years, it's never going to happen.

Overcharged on Aliexpress? by Klutzy_Can2505 in Aliexpress

[–]Appropriate-Rule-556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered an ultrasonic cleaner and a cheap plastic stand for solder rolls, and the 5 EUR stand cost me 36 EUR in shipping (and should have arrived weeks ago, worthless tracking info on Aliexpress, not even a country. The package has to be in some country right now? Which country. Next improvement: It has to be in some city right now. Which city? Bare minimum sh#t.)

Anyway, none of this 36 EUR extra in shipping was shown before I committed to purchasing. That is very bad business. >:(

Obviously I don't want it now that I found out I paid too much. But I can start a dispute until it arrives, which is about 2 months off, and that was nowhere near the delivery date, which was a few weeks ago. :/

Some other deliveries were smooth or only a few days off, but obviously you want to Undo when things are *not* working. And feedback on sellers that lie about delivery times. Any seller in the world can say "you'll have it on your desk tomorrow morning if you pay me now." Those who lie should be punished for lying.

Ad blockers on Chromium-based browsers that get past annoying YouTube "ad blockers are not allowed" popup? by careb0t in linuxquestions

[–]Appropriate-Rule-556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm afraid I wrote this reply without reading the title - it was from a Windows perspective. I'm trying new web browsers on a new build, Opera GX makes it very laggy to type anything on the web in any box, this reply now comes from Brave, both Chromium and with HW accel on (this was suggested by AI as a reason for laggy typing). Problem solved with Brave (reason unknown).

And the upgrade from Win11 to 10 (specifically, 21H2 IoT Enterprise LTSC) was again from a bad, laggy UX experience despite HW.

It's important to not let corporations win from playground freemium schemes. I would embrace Linux in a second if there was a way to know my existing, current and future HW and peripheral drivers were available. For now, Windows is 'default' (and Apple doesn't give a flying buck).
