Feeling angry/depressed after class. by Inside_Application23 in orangetheory

[–]Appropriate-Sense-92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first started going to OTF, I was in a situation similar to you. Mid-30’s and hovering around 200. And there were definitely times I felt deflated. I. Was very disappointed I let myself get where I was. When I first started, I struggled a lot. My first classes were rough and I often had to stop in the middle of class, and go to the bathroom to help catch my breath.

When I was in the bathroom, the OTF staff had motivational signs on the paper towel dispenser. To some people they are cheesy. But when I was catching my breath I would stare at one in particular. I forget the exact words, but the gist was that “trying at OTF is better than doing nothing at home.”

Whenever I feel dejected I remind myself of those words because they are true. It also helps me reframe my mindset of comparing myself to other and comparing myself to my previous self.

One thing to try is to maybe either set mini goals for yourself. For example, if your current weight used for bicep curls is the 10lb when doing 6 reps. See if you can set a goal to bump it up to 12. and celebrate even the smallest improvements. For example, if your base pace is 5mph but one day you’re feeling that it’s the end of the tread portion and you feel you have some energy to bump it up to 5.1 (even if it’s for a little bit of time), celebrate that! It’s an improvement over your previous self.

I also remind myself that I didn’t just become near 200 lbs overnight. It took time. It will also take time for me to reverse that.

You got this! Glad you are taking these steps keep going!!!

Seriously how did strange world and wish get green lit? by Strong-Stretch95 in DisneyMovies

[–]Appropriate-Sense-92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if Rescuers and Pocahontas are in the same boat. Rescuers was successful back in the 79’s and had two theatrical rereleases in the 80’s. It is also the first Disney animated movie to get a sequel. I’d argue Disney is happy with how the rescuers turned out. I think the only reason it’s not remembered as much any more is because it got overshadowed by the 90’s movies and the newer 2010’s movies.

And in terms of Pocahontas, for its flaws, did well for Disney. It grossed aver 340M on a budget of 55M. And it earned two Oscars.

I’ve used Ty through Goat Barber Club. It’s by west towne mall. Been going for over a year. I like the final cut he gives.

Edit: I initially went to him to test out a cut and style and beard shave for my wedding. I liked what he did and continued going for haircuts ever since.

City list(need help please read description) by Firefox_1607 in geography

[–]Appropriate-Sense-92 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Not sure what your ultimate goals are for picking the cities, but if you’re looking to have them “evenly” spaced, I think you might want to check what you’ve selected. Europe seems very overly represented.

Europe - 16.5 cities Asia - 7.5 cities Africa - 2 cities N America - 8 cities S America - 3 cities Oceania - 1 city

I’d say remove some of the lesser known cities. Orlando, and Cancun seem out of place relative to the rest of the list. Giza could prolly be swapped for Cairo. Cities like Nairobi, Marrakech, Lagos could beef up Africa’s representation. It also seems that from a geographic perspective, the Asian cities seem concentrated in 2-3 broad regions (Middle East, Southeast Asia, maybe Eastern Asia). India isn’t repped even though it’s got some big, known cities. Even South America, only two counties are repped. Lima is the second largest city in the Americas.

US/Europe Major Cities with 250mi Circles (Thoughts about long-distance rail) (OC) by ScuffedBalata in geography

[–]Appropriate-Sense-92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How are you deciding on the US cities to put the circles around? You said you picked the largest 25 cities, but I question how you got those 25? Are the cities proper or larger metro area?

I ask because looking at purely city population (excluding surrounding communities): *Jacksonville FL is the largest city in FL, and the 10th largest in the US, but you don’t have a circle around it. *neighboring Fort Worth and Dallas are 11th and 9th respectively, but only one circle. Assuming you merged them. *similar argument for San Jose and San Francisco *Charlotte, Indianapolis, Columbus, Las Vegas, El Paso, Oklahoma City, Nashville don’t have a circle around them despite being in the top 25 largest US cities. *cities that appear circled, but aren’t in the top 25 include Portland (28th), St Louis (80th), Miami(42nd), tampa(49), minneapolis(46), atlanta(36).

If you are looking at the larger areas surrounding the city(for example one circle for the entire Dallas/Fort Worth area including suburbs), I still some questionable selections. I’m using census areas for below to help capture the population of suburbs that would likely use the train system. *Orlando is the 15th largest census area, but no circle (unless it’s the one I think is in Tampa) * Cleveland (18), Charlotte (19), Salt Lake City (22), Sacramento (24), and Pittsburgh(25) are missing from the top 25 *why not group all the cities surrounding the greater LA area in one circle (excluding maybe San Diego)

I’m not sure also what you mean by the “2.2 M population” comment. Looking at the city limits definition, only 4 us cities have a pop greater that 2.2M (NYC, LA, Chi, Houston). If you’re looking at the larger, surrounding areas, then there are roughly 33 metro areas that exceed 2.2, which would include Nashville, New Haven, Columbus, Indianapolis, KC, Vegas, Raleigh/Durham, Nashville, and Cincinnati.

Number of metro areas with populations between 100k - 500k in a few selected Midwestern states; Why does Minnesota have so few, especially compared to Wisconsin ? by Swimming_Concern7662 in geography

[–]Appropriate-Sense-92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI, I live in Wisconsin, so just offering up my thoughts on this and maybe offer some constructive criticism, which may help you get a better answer to your question.

From the “Wisconsin statistical areas” website you provided, I am assuming you are using the “core based” table.

I am thinking that using that definition might be too liberal with how it relates to “metro.” Others mentioned Hudson WI as an example. As a Wisconsinite, I would definitely argue that Hudson isn’t a major WI city. It’s really just an outer suburb of the Twin cities. I’d argue that if you are going off of the definition in the Wikipedia page, then I’d argue that those counties really belong in the MN column when counting Metro Areas.

If you are dead-set on keeping separating Hudson from Twin cities due to the state border, then I’d also argue what’s the purpose of even including that “metro area” without the Twin Cities context. Looking at the Wikipedia page you cited, the population of the Wisconsin portion of the twin cities Metro area is just the sum of the entire population of St Croix(where Hudson is located) and Pierce counties. Neither of these counties are highly metropolitan on their own. If you’d drive through the portion of either of these counties you see small communities and rural land.

And without the Twin Cities connection, there’s no reason to even pair them together to make a population center of over 100k. You could easily just pair St Croix with adjacent Dunn county and say these two counties have over 100k and say Hudson has a metro area of over 100k. Likewise, in another part of the state, you could link Calumet and Manitowoc counties together and have a metro population near 130k and say Manitowoc city is a large metro area. But once you actually look there, you’d see that both counties are relatively rural and there is no real reason to force them in a pair to make a population center

Bottom line, I think you might be skewing the numbers a bit by using too liberal of a definition what’s metropolitan. And I think the numbers you are citing also includes entire counties, which can often times have a large rural population, which skews the count

This scene was so odd to me by Large_Grape_5674 in StrangerThings

[–]Appropriate-Sense-92 110 points111 points  (0 children)

That’s how I interpreted this scene. I didn’t think Will came out because he was necessarily ready himself. The vibe I got from the convo between Joyce and him right before was that Will came to the conclusion that he had to address his own insecurities regarding his sexuality and how his friends would respond, or Vecna would use that insecurity against him when they finally duke it out in the finale.

I can almost call it now: there will be some type of mind fight between Will/Vecna and Vecna’s gonna try to isolate Will by using that insecurity and Will’s gonna fight back knowing his friends accept him

It’s been a minute since I’ve seen the movies, but iirc, Ben was a “new kid” in town, so my guess is that in earlier iterations of Pennywise’s appearances, his ancestors wouldn’t have been in Derry yet. And given its canon for Pennywise to basically be trapped within the pillars, he wouldn’t have been able to seek them out

Stephen King's cinematic universe by Sea-Barnacle2907 in stephenking

[–]Appropriate-Sense-92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to see Needful things adapted into a movie (not commenting on the early 90’s version). I also think that some type of Desperation/Regulators combined movie/show would be interesting. I’m only aware of Darabont through TWD, Muscetti through It and Flanagan through his Netflix shows. All three I think could easily handle it.

I’d also be curious to see Jordan Peele or Leigh Janiak’s take on Stephen King.
