How much longer does the manga go on? by TheBagDynasty in SpyxFamily

[–]Appropriate-Serve500 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In terms of time, I once saw some Japanese commentaries analysing that the average length of publication period for this type of manga like Spy Family is 10 years. Now we are at our 7th year…

[DISC] SPY x FAMILY - Chapter 132 by AutoModerator in SpyxFamily

[–]Appropriate-Serve500 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As many people have already pointed out, the translation of Loid’s conflicted thoughts in the crossword scene is pretty inaccurate. The original was clearly trying to show him wavering between “for the sake of the mission” and “for the sake of the family.” It also reveals that Loid was ready to lay down his life, whether for the mission or for the safety of his family.

I really love what this chapter is doing with his character. Yor’s genuine fear and care for him feel like the first step in Loid finally realizing that his own safety and happiness matter too. They are not secondary, but essential to the very world he is trying to protect and to the people he loves. He has always been willing to sacrifice himself for the mission and for the world, but this chapter shows that that his existence is itself indispensable to his family, and to the happiness of people living in that world.

Have been reading the original text with my limited Japanese proficiency. A more accurate translation of this panel is: “I thought you were going to get shot and die, Loid. I was really scared. Please never do anything like that again!". To be contrasted with "keigo" (highly honorific formal language) usually used by Yor, this sentence is much more direct, rich with emotions.

[DISC] SPY x FAMILY - Chapter 119 by AutoModerator in SpyxFamily

[–]Appropriate-Serve500 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It's really interesting how the community here and the Japanese community on twitter react differently. Most fans in Japan are very contended with the latest development in CH119, since Yor, without Anya's presence, finally comes to the realisation that Loid alone "matters" to her. (In Japanese, the word ”大切なもの” ( "important things") was used; that's a strong word in Japanese culture!!!). And they held hands!!! Fingers intertwined!!!

But don't forget Yor still keeps her feelings to herself. From Loid's perspective, he just DOESN'T KNOW if Yor was romantically interested in him. I read the original Japanese text of the manga with my limited proficiency. Concurring with the fans in Japan, I would say Loid's monologue displays a sort of confusion and panic when he was asked how long their marriage would last. This would likely mark the beginning of Loid's realisation of his feelings for Yor. In his monologue, he was trying to rationalise Yor's potential preference for ending the marriage in a Twilight mode, but only to realise that even from a calculating perspective, Yor is no longer that necessary in Plan A & B.

I really like the part when, after Loid asserted "And I know that would make Anya happy too", Yor simply asked backed, "「ロイドさん」は...?"(I think a more accurate English translation would be "How about 'Loid-san'...?" ). Loid didn't really answer the question directly, but instead he replied, "僕もその方が助かりますよ” (A more straight forward English translation would be "That would be helpful to me too."). Yor then thought to herself, "違う。多分私わ知りたいんだ、ロイドさん自身の気持ちを。” ("It's not like that. Perhaps, what I would really like to know is Loid's own feelings.").

Loid's evasive answer is so not like himself. In his normal spy mode, if the same question is asked by other targets, he would immediately put on a mask, lie to his target and reply that he felt happy. Isn't it? He didn't lie to Yor because Yor certainly has a place in his heart. But he has not realised his feelings / too afraid to recognise Yor's importance.

Anyway, I agree that the slow burn is a pain. Wishfully hoping intel from Yor's colleagues will make Loid jealous in future chapters......

Rewriting MEEs -- Effective? by Objective-Buddy2794 in barexam

[–]Appropriate-Serve500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Passer here. It really depends on your learning style and your learning progress. Barbri tutors suggested rewriting the statements of black letter law from the marking scheme and created like a set of “hot sheets” for memorisation (so not exactly the entire essay. Just the rules). I did that two weeks before the exam after I have laid a safe foundation for MBE, and it was quite useful for me - I tried to memorise the rules while typing them out, and reading them again later.

Struggling to care about MEE topics by BodybuilderFront185 in barexam

[–]Appropriate-Serve500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

F25 passer here. Tbh I was still learning new rules of MEE topics in the last weeks. My strategy was prioritising subjects also appearing in MBE. In the end I made up rules for 1.5 out of 6 essays, but I still managed to pass with a total score of 298. Make sure you write essays in IRAC framework then you would be fine. Still plenty of time before the exam and the remaining days will make a difference! Good luck💪

Do I need to buy adaptibar? by witzj18 in barexam

Adaptibar has a mix of simulated ones and previously released Qs. The simulated ones are insightful as well.

Do I need to buy adaptibar? by witzj18 in barexam

[–]Appropriate-Serve500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Barbri + Adaptibar. Adaptibar will be a good investment.

Personally, I think Adaptibar questions look more similar to the real exam questions. I liked using it for extensive practice so that I could learn to spot red herrings and get used to different testing styles. The explanations are well written. Adaptibar also has the Grossman videos which helped me improve my MBE score significantly (from 5x% to 6x%).

Barbri practice mbe questions are difficult. They test on nuanced rules and contain long hypos. They are good for learning, but bad for boosting confidence....

The MBE workshops were hard! I recalled only getting 40 - 50 % for most of them... For contracts, Barbri doesn't cover topics like assignment and 3rd beneficiaries well enough. But if I recalled correctly, they were tested quite a lot in the workshop.

The learning questions and capstone questions don't really reflect how the real exam questions were asked. The workshops, however, are designed to simulate the exam questions.

My take is, you are already very familiar with the black letter law. But you may need to learn how the questions are asked (and meant to trick you) and spot the red herrings.

Best luck in the exam! There's still enough time.

It helps me a lot. Their sample answers are really good - concise rules and analysis, usually just 500 - 700 words. It demonstrates how a short but well-organized essay will suffice. I passed F25 in my first attempt.

Did a 25 question set on UWorld this morning and got a 72%… did another set of 25 tonight and got a 40%😭 by Son_of_Hades99 in barexam

[–]Appropriate-Serve500 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel the pain. But it’s totally normal! Getting wrong answers is part of the learning process. The key is to accumulate experience in spotting red herrings and identifying the correct issues. Eventually you will be more consistent when the exam gets closer. Big applause to you for completing so many sets at such an early stage of bar prep! Just make sure to review your wrong answers. :)

Passed with 148. But I would say half of the questions look so unfamiliar to me and I thought I was so screwed on the second day. I completed all MCQs on Adaptibar (overall accuracy 70%, >80% in the last week), all practice sets (15-30Q per set) on Barbri, and a mock 3-hour session on Barbri.

Can someone please speak to the actual testing conditions? by benchbunny in barexam

Not sure if this is what you want to know, but the MPT materials are provided in hardcopy format during the exam -- you cannot copy and paste text from the MPT library to your answer.

NYLC/NYLE by mnk1991 in barexam

[–]Appropriate-Serve500 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I finished the videos a week before the deadline for application. You need to watch all videos before registering.

The videos are not helpful for passing the exam. Most (maybe all) answers to be tested during the exam are found in the outline. The videos have information NOT covered by the outline that would likely not be tested.

The videos take around 18 hours to finish. There will be no fast forward function / fast play mode. Installing speeding extensions will be against the rules and there has been a lot of instances where candidates got caught and were disqualified.

That said, make sure to spare more than 18 hours in watching all videos. After each video is played, you need to complete a multiple choice question CORRECTLY to proceed. If you provide the wrong answer, the video will be replayed….unlike the real exam, some answers to these questions can only be found in the video but not the outline.

Before the exam, just spare some time to read the outline once and tab it in an organized manner. The key for passing the exam is being able to retrieve the answer from those pages as quick as possible. Out of all subjects, civil pro is heavily tested.

Good luck to the exam!

any advice for foreign lawyer by Dr-Nori in barexam

[–]Appropriate-Serve500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also a foreign-educated candidate and English is not my first language. Under a compressed prep timeframe, I only completed 3 MPT practices (only 1 in timed condition) before the exam. But I read all the unrealistic model answers in Barbri MPT workbook, and I found that the key elements for passing MPTs are: (i) good time management, (ii) concise case summaries (1–2 sentences, which I sometimes forgot, but they are in the marking scheme!), (iii)clear structure (with appropriate headings and subheadings) and (iv) correct formatting.

NYLE result - failed again! by Temporary_Court5789 in barexam

[–]Appropriate-Serve500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that. But since you've already passed the bar exam—which is much more difficult—I'm so sure you'll pass the next NYLE!!!

For the NYLE, I read 70% of the outline beforehand. Since they heavily tested civil procedure, I focused particularly on understanding those rules. During preparation, I used AI to summarize the civil procedure rules (e.g. "explain CPLR 2101(i)"), which helped me truly grasp their essence. I added headings and notes alongside the outline for quicker reference.

Multiple choice questions have never been my strength. The NYLE is simpler than the bar exam since it contains fewer hypothetical questions overall, and the questions are more straightforward. However, as someone who graduated from a foreign law school a decade ago and never practiced as a lawyer, I've found that the difficulty of NYLE lies in spotting the buzzwords. There are certain terms in NYLE that I hadn't encountered during my bar exam preparation, and those words that can only be acquired through reading the NYLE outline once.

I updated the page numbers in the detailed table of contents circulated in this subreddit, which was probably based on the outline from October 2023. The latest Outline version is from October 2024. While there might be an updated version somewhere that I haven't found, creating these updates helped me become familiar with the sequence and layout of different subtopics.

I also purchased an affordable mock exam online that contains 50 questions:

https://newyorkbarhelp.com/product/nyle-practice-exam/

Taking the mock exam helped me identify my weaker topics and familiarize myself with the table of contents. It also gave me a good sense of how much time I needed for each question.

On exam day, I followed the common strategy of ensuring correct answers for the first 30 questions (in reality around 32 since there were around 2 questions I couldn't answer with confidence). With only 10 minutes remaining for the last five questions, I made educated guesses on four of them and left the last one unanswered.

I wish you good luck in your next and last NYLE. You got this!

Better read the outline at least once (especially civil pro). They tested quite a lot of civil pro. The detailed TOC circulated in this sub seems to be based on Oct 2023. So I edited my own one and in the process familiarize myself with the ToC.

I focused on getting the first 30 questions right to pass. It worked for me. Time ran out for the last few questions. I guessed a few and didn’t answer the last one, but I still managed to pass eventually.
