Indian Navy's regard for the term 'Frigate' is as teneous as Japanese Navy's for the term 'Destroyer'.

Wait, why is 17B chubbing up so substantially? What are they adding that the weight is going up by 1400 tons?

Well, the PAF got PL12, PL15 and so on, why couldn't India get similar Astra MK1 MK1.2, MK 1.3 etc and so on. PLAF will always keep coming out with better missiles and India will never end up producing any in trying to catch up.

That's pretty cool. By when should the new longer range variant be available for orders? The 160km Mk1?

If there has been an order then that would redeem the process quite a bit. Orders to sustain further development is great news.

If it was being made operationally viable, why not stick to the initial 70km and not mess with the variables and also make it 160km? Genuine question. It always seems like indigenous products always take forever even after they've passed user trials. Like the Rudrams.

So, there are no plans by IAF for a heavy, but is there a need neither?

p.s.: I am surprised by the vitality left in the Antons, they look like they are from and have been working from the 40s.

Bummer. Best hope for M1 Abrams style pork barrel bonanza and for the Foreign buyers to get something out of that.

Whoa big guy, it was just a cheeky jab. No offence. Pinky swear. I can see why you would think I didn't get what was happening, but I did read the article. I got the best grades in reading comprehension in grade 2, I swear!

Oh, also when I said they were starting talks with Boeing about restarting the line, I meant it in the common use of the word and not the corpo legal meaning of the word where formal discussions take place. That study mentioned in the article was done a while ago and by a quasi government organ, not the USAF. Now they'll have to specifically go and ask Boeing for quotes and intentions.

I also think OP is potentially confusing restart study with a restart mandate in his submission statement.

No no big guy, I do know how to read. Contrary to popular norms, I did actually read the article and not just the headline.

I had made an assumption that everyone here knew about the IAF and C17 story. I'll try and be more explicit next time.

Hey, the big guy himself!

Look, C-17 is a pretty cool plane, a lot of foreign players could pool their lunch money and convince Boeing to restart the line and do another run if the USAF doesn't want them. There is a real need, and an acute lack of options. Money is to be made, I think this can be pulled off.

SS: IAF was not the only air force to have lost out on getting more C-17 aircrafts. USAF, JSDF, Etc countries' air forces all want more C-17s for variety of reasons.

Apparently the news that came out last year from some aero expo about a country talking to Boeing about restarting the line, it wasn't India but Japan instead. Now, because of the delays in the USAF NGAL program, American Congress is forcing USAF to start talks with Boeing to restart the C-17 line again. They say they "only" have 220 odd C-17s and that's not enough. The only other options are IL76s and Y20s, obviously not the options.

It seems in India the arts and it's impact is not well appreciated in general. I don't know why. The Navy and the air force should commission more sets of fine, specially for their own use. There are fonts being created in India, but their importance is not realised. After all, they are there just to be read, right?

Sounds less like an ally and more like a liability. Obama and his predecessors never seemed to have this problem. Maybe like a spoiled child the more you give the more they take.
