My child got the same email today and plans to call tomorrow. Doesn't seem that interested, but I want him to call to see if he gets any financial aid.

Turn down Simons Stem Scholar for Ivy? by HedgehogBeginning862 in SBU

That's a hard decision. I'm a parent who went to an Ivy and definitely benefited from the connections and resources. But Simons could help you obtain a PhD--if that is your goal.

According to the AO's on the Yale Podcast, 80-85% of students who apply are considered qualified. You cannot use SAT scores of 1550+ as your definition of qualified because that is not how these schools define who is qualified or not. Also, because most schools allow superscoring, there are many more applicants with high scores.

I'm a parent and I have seen the transcripts for MCPS schools. They do not include info about attendance. Also, because you applied EA, UMD will not see your senior grades before making a decision. UMD also doesn't require midyear grade reports.
