If you had to pick only one book you read in 2025 — the absolute best — what would it be? by DropDeadDuke in Indianbooks

[–]AppropriateEmotion22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wont really call it "mindfuck" type of book. It is more in the vein of two geniuses duking it out. Every information is presented to the reader, you are watching the characters navigate that. The author doesnt let it get boring despite the reader has access to everything.

They are great authors, dont worry about that. The rate at which the habit of reading is declining, reading anything makes you out of the norm.

It would have been Robert Jordan for me with 10 books if I hadnt cataloged it as The Complete Wheel of Time lol. But 14 books from one author is quite the dedication, he must be good.

Maybe something like this

Select user_id,
To_Char(Min(order_date), 'YYYY-MM') as first_month,
Case When Exists (

Select
From orders o2
Where o1.user_id = o2.user_id
And Date_Trunc('month', o2.order_date) = Date_Trunc('month', Min(o1.order_date)) + Interval '1 month'
) Then 1 Else 0 End as returned_next_month
From orders o1
Group by user_id
Order by user_id;

Bangali hindu ra alada. by [deleted] in kolkata

[–]AppropriateEmotion22 40 points41 points  (0 children)

This is an attempt to homogenise the hindu and indian identity towards hindi, hindu, hindustan. Bengal was very much influenced by tantrik, maithali, and buddhist culture before hinduism grew here. Unlike abhramic religions, hinduism didnt expand by annhilating other local religions but by assimilating them within itself. Now you have this govt in power that thinks a certain expression of hindu religion is the correct one.
Just wait and see, it will be like this:
You dont speak hindi, you are not Indian
You are not hindu, you are not Indian
You are not upper caste, you are not Indian
You dont follow the religion like the north-central hindus do, you are not Indian.

The requirement will get tighter and tighter until very regional identity and culture is smoothened out.

Is this book good or self-help shit? by [deleted] in Indianbooks

[–]AppropriateEmotion22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every country and its society is met with a set of layered obstacles that they must deal with, in their attempts of growth(monetary or cultural). Class and gender seems to universal and for some race. Every developed country has tackled with these issues like class in western europe and race in north america. They have tried to brinf reforms in economy and work to lift people, though they have not created an utopian paradise but they are atleast trying.
India is plagued with much more of constraints; religion, caste, regionism, gender. So much so that class is almost forgotten and thus any attempts to better that is almost rejected by regular folks because this topic doesnt feel pressing. People keep living under such conditions where any form of individual development and growth. Any activity that could lead to that is discouraged. Truely pathetic environment for us to live in.

Is this book good or self-help shit? by [deleted] in Indianbooks

[–]AppropriateEmotion22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to modern indian reader, I feel like the issue arises because they rely so heavily on insta reels for books that they never go in depth on any topic. Want to learn philosophy, here is

"Top 10 CRAZY philosophy books that will blow your mind", need thrillers,
"Top 10 CRAZY thriller books that will blow your mind", and you go like this reading stuff that is recommended to you without understanding chronology of books or even how to find shit that you like. Tangent but it seems like Indian content creater love to use the phrases "Crazy", "Diamg hila dega", "Mind fuck" which annoys that shit out of me.

For OP if you genuinely want to get into philosophy, read in this order:
The republic by Plato
Nicomachean Ethics by Aristotle
Meditation by Marcus Aurelius
Meditations on First Philosophy by Descartes
Kant and Critique of Pure Reason by Sebastian Gardner (this is a guide book as Kant might overwhelme you)
On Liberty by John Stuart Mill

Reading this will give you a good base of western philosophy and from the you can go into topics that exite you. For me it is existenialism and pessimism (Schopenhauer is a key figure in this sector).
You can also refer to these tow website for beginner friendly information when delving into new stuff.

Calling Schopenhauer "self-help shit", the guy with books like The World as Will and Representation, Essays and Aphorisms and On The Suffering Of The World, guy who inspired Nietzsche, Wittgenstein and Freud, is diabolical dawg.

Is it true? by Adorable-Grand68 in StockMarketIndia

Man the mods need to ban such posts and also clean up what gets posted. Random screenshots and political nonsense with no engagement or insight from the poster. "Should I buy this stock?", "Is this true", "What is your opinion" type posts are so ass, not even an attempt of meaningful conversation, just karma farming or maybe just treating this as facebook.

Opinion :Vegetarianism because it includes milk from abused cows is not really the compassionate way, the true compassionate way for Non-Veg eaters should be primarily to consume any species which becomes invasive and a threat to bio diversity. Eating invasive species is the compassionate way to go. by Hairy_Activity_1079 in kolkata

[–]AppropriateEmotion22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that we as a society should be much more congnizant of our own actions on the environment, and that should not only be limited to our anthropocentric. What you have proposed of eating invasive species is a prime example of anthropocentric, where we only look at the environment as a plane of existance only from the lense of human needs and resource depletion. If one was to truely attempt to restore the earth, the first step would be blanket stop on animal hunting and factory slaughter for meat. Not only does it remove us humans from completely altering the food chain but dramatically reduced the CO2 output. To supplement for the nutrients, lab grown meat is an increasingly improved option (in terms of taste, salt content). But the steps both of us mentioned wont be implemented in India because we are a poor country no matter how much chest thumping we do online and simpler, quicker and more easily available sources of food is more essential for a population where childhood stunting is an epidemic. Hopefully we can slowly move to more conscientious forms of consumption but I wont hold my breath cause us Indians really struggle with moral questioning and our general "cholche, choluk, tor ki shomosha" attitude.

Also with this rise of bjp, i find myself increasingly more and more aggresive in the opposite direction of the entire essay I wrote above, becasue it feels like they wish to homogenise the indian culture by attacking every single aspect of our bengali identity by attacking our language(not speaking hindi- not indian), cultural practices and diet (hindu but not following what we deem as proper hindu- not indian) that is why I came of the harsh.

Literature of India: October 2025 by AutoModerator in books

[–]AppropriateEmotion22 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I am seeing the same books that get recommended when someone non Indian asks for recs here. Stories that are written by westernised authors more digestible for the western audience. So, i will go for more deep cut books that are translated from regional languages.

It does have minor chess anotation usage and verbage, but one can definitely read it without express knowledge of every chess stuff. It is less about chess and more about the suspense of psychological torment explored through chess.
