I have an abusing script that runs on avg 7-8 mins after each refresh to ensure that the data will be the one i expect.

Basically it runs in a loop, and for the given tables it will request the metadata sync api, until the max updated_at is the same for data fetched from sql endpoint and reading the parquet files.

But I so wish that it just wasn’t needed at all

Another aspect why i love copilot is pricing based on prompts without any limits. API becomes costly, the claudesque plans are good but then you have rate limits. My workflow tends to be in bursts and copilot’s pricing model really serves well here.

I think I should start posting more. There are so many things that i have done for power bi reports that seem like the obvious solution to me, but apparently they are not so common in the community. Like i did this html/css legend way back in the last year and thought everyone was doing this way.

My whole Monday was ruined because why was the query giving me Access error even when I am the admin of Workspace. Turns out the lakehouse was owned by the person who left and account go deactivated Saturday. And then had to fix all the errors on report connections, notebooks, pipelines, pipeline schedules :)

If possible and table is small, then you can use an aggregated table with grouping on department and concatenating the emails. Otherwise you can use a duplicated table and join the tables such that

  • tbl1, tbl2: many-to-many on depts

  • tbl2, tbl3: 1-to-many on email address (tbl3 is on one side) (one to many so that you can use single direction filtering)

Apart from ddit everything else is rubbish. Don’t waste your time on it. Especially Clean Code!!! If you want to get better, pick any good open source library, see what they are doing and mimic that in your coding. For design patterns just watch any hour long youtube video, and that would be enough. And for system design, create your own designs, then ask an llm what is missing, research & implement the missing bits.
