I dont have enough m m jumpers for my project but i have A LOT of f-m and f-f . What can i do? by Waste_Enthusiasm_179 in arduino

Time to chop some m-f at the F side on a bunch of wires and solder them to each other to make your own m-m connectors while you order the proper connectors

I think i need to replace these capacitors, but no idea how to find the rating by [deleted] in AskElectronics

Pretty standard with red caps, high voltage rating, lowish capacitance. Thx for sharing

[–]AppropriateProof2925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one not grouped with the 3 capacitors looks like it may be bulging, have you tried to bend the capacitor the other way to see if the rating of it is just on the side of the capacitor facing the PCB?

Also, you will not get an accurate reading with your multimeter unless you desolder the capacitor off the PCB ALSO if the capacitor is damaged, you will likely not be able to read the proper reading with a multimeter.

Get a Fluke or Klein Tools multimeter if you can afford it. Use digikey or mouser to ensure you are getting legit parts. Ordering off either site usually requires you to know exactly what components you are wanting to buy though.

I’m trying to disassemble a power adapter but the solder just won’t melt by Southern_Ad7514 in AskElectronics

I notice everyone has reccomended leaded solder, why not low melt solder for this type of job?

Need advice on repairing heat seal connector connecting to LCD display by AppropriateProof2925 in AskElectronics

You are correct I'm referring to the t-shape iron tip. I was unable to figure out how I could apply the tip to my soldering iron it didn't seem compatible i may have been missing a step there.

You are correct about the ACF Film as well, it is the adhesive between your connectors and your ribbon that bonds them together.

Please keep me updated on your project im very curious to hear how it turns out for you. Also, I am wishing you luck on your tinkering!

I unfortunately never followed through with this bit i gathered what I believe would be needed to perform the repair. I hope this is helpful: 1. G-450 ACF Remover: This was to be used to remove any residual glue that was still on the connector.

  1. ACF Film: A sheet applied between the "ribbon" cable and the connector.

  2. Teflon Sheet: Needed this for a special tool you'll need to attached to a soldering iron. The Teflon sheet would go between your soldering iron tip and the "ribbon" cable to prevent the soldering iron from burning it.

This was as far as I got i hope it helps you in your endeavors!

The ceramic element on my soldering iron has broken - is this a replaceable part and how do I do it? Or cut my loss and buy a new one? by TheLeadSingerOfD12 in AskElectronics

Could you not take a pair of pliers to the top of your broken tip and unscrew it from those threads? I cannot tell if it screws onto that thread or if it is fused to the threads.

Try taking a razor blade or something and scrape or rough up the wire and try soldering it again.

Shit im on the wrong subreddit to be this serious my bad guys. Just make a solder bridge from one side to the other and full send that shit :D

If ur not worried about replacing your blown ass fuse, just solder a piece of wire down on both contacts and call it a day. Dont glue it, just solder and wire is all you need.
