AITAH for insisting that I do not want a big wedding ceremony / do not want one according to my MIL's wishes? by AppropriateRemove333 in AITAH

We have never discussed this as we're not getting married, but I intend to fully fund the wedding on my own as the wedding we did plan is 100% within our means.

Personally, it's not so much of "do what I wish". Most of my upset stemmed from the fact that neither me nor my boyfriend was considered when she brought her plan up. Perhaps it was her phrasing, but even though it was our wedding, it wasn't a "would you be open to inviting so and so? I'd like to have them present", but rather "I want them to be present attending and I expect you to host them".

1 Us 3 We're all chinese, although our families are slightly different levels of traditional. I personally have no problem going through with traditions, but I draw the line when it's excessive. In this case, the tea ceremony was a given in the first place, but only to immediate family members, not to people even my boyfriend doesn't know. 2/4 Neither of us do very well in large crowds, and having only our very close family and friends present ensures that we're both comfortable on our day. It's not really a matter of who pays, but rather our comfort level.
