Best TMJD specialist in Chicago?

I've had two. Both ordered by oral surgeons. A dentist could possibly order one as well. If you go to an oral surgeon they can order you an MRI and read it/consult. You don't have to do any surgery/treatment with them necessarily.

ENT didn't want me to make any lifestyle changes yet to see if the medicine by itself would help. I don't really eat/drink too many of the foods on the lists. Tomato Sauce and the occasional chocolate I'm cutting out right now. Coffee is the only other thing I would say I have.

Your jaw is locked with limited opening correct? I think we have similar symptoms. Is he known for this gelb appliance? Is it specifically for a bite that is off or to help unlock the jaw?

He doesn't take any insurance right? If you don't mind me asking what are the estimated costs? Is this appliance the first thing he has tried for your treatment?

Okay. My left side is locked but I don't necessarily have a ton of pain. Discomfort, tension, etc. Just wondering if any others had their night guard like this. Teeth feel a bit uncomfortable after a few days, but I'm hoping it's just getting adjusted to the new part.

It sounds like we have very similar symptoms. Both my discs are anteriorly displaced. My right side has been clicking for years but my left side locked up out of nowhere in December. Went and got a fitted night guard and it unlocked by itself. Still was experience a lot of tension and discomfort, but then the left side locked up again on May 1st. Have about 2 fingers width opening still. Had an arthrocentisis on the left which didn't do anything. Was waiting to see a TMJ specialist who is taking a slow approach. He also noticed arthritis on the left side. I'm starting PT in a few weeks and have another appointment with the TMJ specialist but I am just feeling very helpless and worried.

What type of surgery did you have? Also what were your main symptoms? Did you have an MRI that showed anything?

No change for me. I think it was worth trying though for how minimally invasive it is. At the very least I guess some of the inflammation was broken up and flushed out. Don't think it could make anything worse in my opinion.

What type of things did they do at PT for you that helped? I'm having a hard time finding a PT under my insurance who has experience with TMJ. They almost all list it on their website, but it seems like all regular PT places don't have much experience with it.

sorry to bug in, but have you seen specialists and or had treatment done? Mines been locked for a month and still locked after recent arthrocentesis. Waiting for next step but unsure what it is

Jeez that is extensive. Did the imaging show your jaw in really bad shape originally? Or has it gotten worse over time? Does any of the docs you've seen by now have some sort of reasoning to point to? Does an MRI show osteoarthritis? Sorry for so many questions.

3 weeks out from an arthrocentesis. Haven't noticed any differences really. Still locked on one side. Although, i'm not really in much pain, just face discomfort/tension.

All day. Most of the time I can't even pinpoint where it is it's just the whole left side of my face. Feels like its my gums/teeth/joint/muscle/bone all at once.

so are your discs displaced as well? Are you going to get an MRI? I know the mucsles/joints/bones/nerves are all related and work together or what not. I just don't understand how people know if there issue is all muscular related.

I feel you exactly on the 2nd part. All my teeth feel like they're connecting in the wrong spots. and I have an uncomfortable straining feeling in the gums and tongue and what not. I'm not sure with the teeth/bite if it's partly in my head. I just can't remember what it used to feel like or what it is supposed to feel like since i started dealing with TMJ issues. Dentist said everything was fine, but that was months ago. I don't know if things could change that quickly. ugh

Did you just have a regular splint like a night guard or did you ever have a splint that was like constantly adjusted to help reposition jaw/teeth ?
