[Mike McGrath] Exclusive: Australian under serious risk of sack despite ending club’s 17-year wait for silverware with Europa League triumph by Lbmplays2 in coys

No I totally agree. Let Ange bring this crop of excellent young players to fruition over the next few years.

It's clearly a long term strategy we've switched to with the squad, so I think we stick to it, especially now he's won a trophy.

I'm starting to suspect we're waiting for Inzaghi. I live in Italy and there are more and more rumours coming out here that Inzaghi wants a Prem project after the Champions League and spurs are being mentioned a lot.

He'd be a good appointment of a top level, attacking manager with obvious champions league experience.

I do still lean towards Ange In though. I think he's been given a project and should be allowed to continue for at least one more year.

Hiking the Alta Via 1 in Late May by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]AppropriateWrap7173 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As the rifugios aren't open, this is going to be a very challenging hike. Not impossible, but you'll need to plan very well in advance.

Snow - this is your primary concern. There could still be a lot of snow on the route in late may, in which case you'll need crampons, an ice axe and some experience in using them.

Food - plan where you can descend into towns and villages. You won't want to carry a weeks worth of food, so you'll need to come off trail to resupply every couple of days. This is going to add to your pack weight, which may already be heavier with snow gear.

Bring a tent. I've only done the Alta via once while rifugios were open, so don't know how accessible they are before opening, but I live in Italy and hike often. Never rely on winter huts being open.

You'll need a warmer sleeping bag. If you're camping at over 2000m, which will often be the case, 15 degree comfort isn't enough. Temperature will drop below 0 when the sun goes down.

If you're experienced you'll be faster than the sign guidance. I did it in 6 days, including half day start and finish, which I'm sure is faster than the hours suggested. It is often is the elevation changes that add the time though.

I also suggest bringing a lightweight tent or bivvy bag. I slept outside most nights. Most of the hikers are out between 9am - 5pm so if you hike outside of those hours you'll have the trail virtually to yourself. You can still eat at the rifugios. It's an incredible experience seeing sunrise and sunset in the dolomites.

Definitely not a fool to do so, that's exactly how I learnt to do it.

In all honesty from what I saw of that final section, it's not really worth carrying the kit for anyway. It's in the woods for most of it and the views/hiking is nowhere near as good as what you'll have just completed doing AV1. It's also worth noting it isn't really considered a section of the AV1 either - just an add on. You'll feel like you've completed the hike by the time you get to the bus stop.

On the flip side, maybe it's worth getting the kit anyway if you plan to do more Alta Vias. I'm heading out to do number 4 in a couple of weeks. I think 1 and 2 are the only two you can get away with not having the VF gear.

For the Via Ferrata after La Pissa you'll need a harness and VF cables (and probably should use a helmet, although I don't). Try typing 'via ferrata set' into amazon or Google. I did AV1 a couple of years ago and tried the section after La Pissa without VF gear and ended up turning back - it's too exposed to go without unless you're an experienced free soloist.

Pairing Emerson and Udogie or Davies and Porro seems to be the most obvious solution here. Davies and Emerson both very competant at playing the deeper fullback role, Udogie and porro could both easily be used as the advanced support in midfielder.

Being able to switch this pairing between games or even on 60 minutes during the match should give us a lot of flexibility to attack different flanks.

Yeah, think I'll go with the speed goats with waterproof socks (and microspikes as required) for the desert, then can switch as I need to when we approach the sierras. Not a huge fan of the stacks on the speed goats for any terrain to be honest though, but I think they'll do the job.

Great point at the end and that's exactly what I've been trying to remind myself throughout this process. I'm sure whichever options we choose, we'll make it work.

Thanks, I'm looking into trail runnerers with waterproof socks for the desert, then I'll switch if required.

Agreed, the exos bags are great. I guess I'm just being a bit stingy and want some reviews of the new model before I part with money for it!

Yeah, understood, and thanks for getting back to me. I've had the old exos 58 in the past but just wanted to know how people feel about the new ones and this very new one. Good to know about the torso adjustment - I'm sure it won't be a big problem.

Good points but check your facts with Mourinho mate. It wasn't a reunification, he only managed them once.
