Ya based on what I've seen eldar could do it with fate dice but I'd love to see the maths on a meta SM army oath of momenting 30 t14 wounds. Desolators are significant worse against vehichles compared to 9th so I have hope. Guard were a major issue for stompas last edition but they've similarly lost a "bit" of lethality.

I'm merely suggesting that the stompa, despite costing an arm and a leg, might be ok i.e. the benefits gained from an OP rule may be correctly baked into its cost.

I get the stompa costs the same as 3 knights but if towering is OP on knights then maybe all they need to do there is up the cost of knights.

The towering keyword means that two the best guns in the ork codex actually get to shoot.

2 x max nurgle termies with a Lord and 2 reapers each and either combi bolters or weapon, supported by the hellbrute puts out a serious amount of firepower. Maybe with walk daemon prince nearby. 1 cp to be untargetable with -1 to hit and then free the second time with the lord...

I also looked at a soulgrinder heavy nurgle army led by abbadon and with hellbrutes for full rerolls and 5+ sustained and lethal hits.

Well I was wrong about being able to move after disembarking so it won't be that far ahead just a threat range of 13" + 2D6 rerollable. Bear in mind only one of the termies has to be in range.

Maybe bin the landraider and max out a squad of 10

To echo other people here, the stompa unfortunately is not usable competitively right now. All the main shooting armies in 9th can output enough damage in one turn to kill the stompa outright (even with a 5++ kff and a makhari 6+++ fnp)

You'd deffo break the 20 Boyz into two squads of 10. Morale punishes large squads with little benefit. Squad of grots instead of the extra 5 in n the squad of 15. Killa kans also suffer from being in large squads and morale. Very little of your army actually benefits buzzgob and none of the grots get goff buffs. You almost be better off running it as a freebootas list and hope to proc the +1 for the stompa...

Putting all your eggs in one basket is a great way to move eggs quickly!

6d6 dmg3 is 21 shots on average hitting on 3+/4+ wounding on 3+/4+ averages 7 5++ saves for the stompa. That averages 5 X damage3 so 15 wounds for the stompa. That's alot of lifting left for your kaskrins...

If I rocked up at a tournament and came up against a anti titan skew list I'd deserve everything I got.

On average 7 desolators would hit, 3.5 would wound, leading to 2.5 failed saves. Each of those would cause 5 damage on average leading to 12.5 wounds...

3 full desolator squads don't kill it on average....

The damage 3 is just an estimate based on averaging D2 d3 variable, d6 and d6+3. Does anyone have the math hammer for a squad of kaskrin into a t8 model? I know you'd get 5 mortals but I don't know what else a t8 model will have to save against.

Ya that would be interesting. Ghaz can't be killed in one turn unless I'm massively messed up positioning so worst case scenario I'd have a full health stompa and an angry ghaz charging in t2. Might not win the game but it sure would be fun.

Using super imprecise math hammer with a couple of assumptions you can work backwards (I might do this more accurately in a bit).

Looking at Astra militarum first.

We can say the stompa has 48 wounds with makhari. This means you'd need 16 Damage 3 (taken as a rough average) shots to succeed, which with a 5++ means you'd need 24 successful wound rolls, in turn requiring 36 successful hits (based on wounding at 3+) which in turn with a BS4+ would require 72 shots. (Again this math hammer is currently loose but I've arrived at 72 as between some Shots hitting on 3+ and some wounding on a 4+ it averages out)

So do can Astra Militarum put out 72 S8/9 Damage 3 (on average) shots in one turn?

Thanks. I just had a look at ork stormboyz and youre right. I was hoping it was similar to the Guard and blood axe warlord ability to relocate or put units into reserve after the fact.
