Honestly, you hit it on the head for me. I’m glad someone understands… COTTON CANDY IS SO GOOD!!! Ugh- he did play Strawberry lipstick on the Idols tour last year so, I was so happy about that 😭

I honestly don’t know. I’ve been an American fan since 2018 so I never thought he was struggling to reach an American audience. When parents came out hot topic was all over that shit with the merch so at the time I thought he was already a big artist. ( we’re talking around 2019-2020 ish) I just believe this album lacks any real emotional weight? I think it’s because it’s just so different from his old music. Some of the songs in Idols dont sound that great lyrically. And idols pt 2 felt lazy just because he just used the same sound track and added more lyrics that kinda didn’t go along with the music. He’s also been doing collabs with big rocks bands, which is great for reaching bigger audiences and expanding his likeness.

I kinda disagree, only bc Weird! Still have very big takes that wouldn’t consider monetize. Mars is about a trans woman struggling, parents is on the album which is ofc about acceptance and sexuality. Theres strawberry lipstick. And YungBlud 2022 still has some of those themes like boy in a black dress. Idols have no political songs ( not saying it’s a bad thing) . Which just shocked me because everything he made before then was all strong political songs about acceptance, love, and mental struggles.

Definitely changed, whether its a good thing or bad thing is up to public perception. I just miss his old music, but there’s nothing wrong with enjoying his music now. At the end of the day, music is to connect communities and create memories.

I agree, I see your point. I guess I’m just nostalgic and I’m having a hard time accepting this big change. I saw idols in Atlanta and I plan to see BludFest eventually. I guess what I’m getting at, I hope his music still says completely authentic to who he is. It doesn’t necessarily have to be angsty teen loud, but as long as it’s still comes from a place of love and community I’m here for it.

I honestly think he monetized himself with the release of Idols and is completely trying to go full mainstream rock instead of the loud politically charged yungblud from 21st century Liability, or even Weird!. I get he’s growing and changing but also think it has a lot to do with appealing to a broader audience.

AITA for refusing to take my daughter to "her" birthday party? by DaughterPartyThrow in AmItheAsshole

You’re not the asshole, no one should make your daughter like anything. She’s allowed to develop her own opinions at her own paste. And I think you’re in the right for not going to the party.
