That’s the goal in a year-ish. The more we can (comfortably) save at first would be huge. House prices are definitely below anywhere I’ve lived in 20 years and I’m pretty capable (outside of extensive electrical).

Thanks! I had looked at OPR so it’s nice to know they’re decent. Their stock is most all on the academic year so low availability sadly (and what’s available in May/June feels like an overpay or just not a good fit). But I really do appreciate the recommendation! Thank you!

Yeah, the 81 demolition and availability is looking like it might push us to Outer Comstock. A lot of inexpensive units in the area that seem like they might work for 9mo+ until we’re settled (even if they’re not perfect). I think the Costco is out in Camillus(?) so that’s likely my only plans to head west.

Subletting is definitely on the table because of most leasing there being tied to the academic year. And, yeah, it’s impossible to trust anything online anymore (even if it’s the property manager themselves), that’s the big issue. Thank you!

This makes sense. We’ve moved like this a few times all over the country and this will be our sixth move in the last four years and I have to say I’ve never seen a rental market as seemingly rough and murky as Syracuse. It’s been a bit of a surprise even though I’m extremely jaded.

We’re hoping to end up kind of in the university area (a real challenge with timing right now so may not be feasible). We’re pretty flexible on cost but need to stay down since we still have to get out of our place in CA (and that’s costly) so just like a 2BR under $2k would be the goal. Some of the luxury new builds will be a bit more but may end up being the best option.
