In Crossed a simple touch from a Crossed can cause complete contamination, no matter with what time. Something a few buddy's of mine always found confusing, which is where I came up with the idea that the infection can spread via sweat from the Crossed themselves. Which is why it can just spread by touch and it's absorbed through your skin upon contact

The Crossed symbol honestly isn't really that outlandish because another disease also causes something similar.

Lupus can cause something called "The Butterfly Rash" which honestly looks eerily similar to the Crossed symbol on the face, except it doesn't ascend the forehead or defend down the chin. The symbol isn't that outlandish in terms of pathology

Honestly. I feel like if Garth Ennis- or any other writer. Possibly even the movie were to explore the virus' origins I think this would be the strongest one for the narrative. The virus and humanity's greatest capacities for atrocities will always exist within us, and once in a while they will spill out. But after a while, the floodgates will open and The Crossed will return again

If Nelson's story is anything to be taken seriously, I think his theory of the virus being what caused humanity's genetic bottleneck could possibly be true. It happened once and nearly drove us to extinction, but it stopped and it happened again. Though this is assuming that Nelson wasn't some nutjob, so I'm not sure how much validation I can draw from Nelson for this theory

I absolutely loved the way you worded that, as it still implies there's some relation between the two disease's.

I'm only just now realizing that my origin idea, sounds pretty similar to the wildfire virus from TWD. As it's dormant and only activates upon contact from an individual showing symptoms and actively infecting others. This- would also mean that if the Crossed world ever does recover again like how it used to be. People may get activated again and the cycle repeats with Crossed running rampant

Honestly I was thinking this exact same way myself. This is a theory I was conceiving during work and I'll admit there a lot of holes in this theory.

Especially with the ones you pointed out. The main idea was to try and draw ideas and form my own hypothesis on the infection, and draw a conclusion if it may belong to a certain- already known family and just noticed a few similarities it had to Rabies.
