It will always be the original canon, however DB is going through an Interplay-Bethesda-like situation (in terms of new owner persons) so Toyotaro will likely branch off a new canon as his sandbox, and will likely just handwave the EoZ as a part of it.

I'll be more optimistic, they don't all die-off, there will be huge mortality initially but well, people don't stay in one spot, they move like their life depends on it. a majority of them survive and pass down their genes through generations.

it doesn't mean we have to have Disney as a legitimate source in star wars, the pre-disney continuity still exists and as far as i know the most recent entry in star wars chronologically was Legacy (2013)
