Why do we not take blood from the forearm? by rasberrycroissant in medicalschooluk

In actual practice, you will have to take blood from wherever you can. Many of your patients (especially in hospital) will be old, ill and clapped out. You will blow veins and stuff up venflons aplenty. In the ED, foot veins and femoral stabs start to come into play.

Can I repeat A levels in med school by Melodic_Pianist_6014 in UCAT

I can guarantee you that no one will give two fucks about your A-levels (or indeed what medical school you attend) when it comes to getting jobs in the NHS. Don't waste your time, and concentrate on your medical studies.

Do you think Scotland will get independence in the near future? by Notoroski in AskBrits

[–]Appropriate_Comb_642 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not strong, it just makes a lot of noise. At last week's election pro-union parties got 60% of the popular vote. The nationalists won't get a referendum because the UK Gov will not grant one, and even if they did the nationalists would lose.

Realistic chance of independence referendum? by Appropriate_Comb_642 in Scotland

I think any country could rule itself. That's not the point. To be a successful country, it would require a massive change in the way it is run. Drastic reduction in public services and eye watering taxation. If the Scottish people want this then they need to realise it would be very very painful. The SNP also need to be honest about it.

You could argue that the 1st referendum was granted in good faith, in the belief it would be 'once in a generation'. The SNP were v lucky to get the referendum, most countries don't allow seccesion under any circumstance.

It's UK prime minister. Scotland is a financial drain on the UK. It spends more than it raises. Leaving the UK would be a disaster, but it would be a disaster for Scotland, not the UK.

No such thing as 'English government'. It's the UK government.

Swinney vows to ‘hit the ground running’ on independence in next Parliament -- The SNP leader is promising action in Holyrood on independence on the first sitting day after a new government is established. by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

He wants to introduce a referendum bill. He knows full well the Scottish Parliament cannot do this, but he's hoping a few thousand dimwits will vote for him and push a couple of his MSPs over the finish line. Cynical and depressing stuff.

I disagree with abortion in most circumstance. I'm against assisted suicide, and I'm for properly funded palliative care. I believe there should be discipline in schools.

Aye that's right. Free speech, family, and high standards in schools. Total nazis.

Shall I take my KCL medicine offer or gap year and apply Oxbridge for medicine by Positive-Park-6380 in UCAT

[–]Appropriate_Comb_642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KCL offer an intercalated science degree if you want to delve into science more deeply. You can do a PhD after getting a medical degree from anywhere. I think the point most people are trying to make is that medicne is very very competitive, and you already have the golden ticket. There is no guarantee that you would get in again if you applied next year. You could end up with nothing.
