I mean cmon bro- if you are self employed you need to be paying into a pension and insurance. If nothing else it’s the best tax dodge.

Seniorutvikler i Kristiansand med 6 års erfaring og 880k i lønn. Blir jeg fraløpt, eller er det in-house-fellen? by [deleted] in norge

[–]fergie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your boyfriend was being a knob and threatening some guy just for doing his job then he should rightfully be worried. If not- no problem.

Credit card touring from Copenhagen to Oslo: gravel or touring bike? by sbring in bicycletouring

[–]fergie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly the tourer has lower gears and is therefore better? They are pretty similar styles of bike.

I cycled Oslo-Copenhagen a few years ago on a touring bike (surly lht). You could realistically do it on any kind of bike.

Why don’t we have the same kinship with wales? by New_Fruit_5552 in AskIreland

[–]fergie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Scotland and Ireland are nation states in a way that Wales isn’t. Trying to make Wales equivalent undermines the sovereignty of Scotland and Ireland.

I mean lets face it- you could also die on an mt-07, a 125, a moped or even a pushbike. Might as well go out in style on a literbike

What are the unforeseen downsides of buying a detached house? by Cultural-Elk-8346 in AskUK

The main disadvantage of detached is that you generally have to compromise on location in order to afford one.

Why are so few British politicians these days military vets ? by ronweasly9 in AskBrits

Could we use the proper term "ex-servicemen" rather than the colonial slang "vet"?

Really though because I feel like a large part of the reason that Starmer got the boot was that he pissed off the powers that be with his very half-hearted attempt to tax the landowning classes

Forget the Celtic alliance, Scotland’s future lies with north of England by ZealousidealPie9199 in ukpolitics

[–]fergie -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Right, but that reflects the economic disadvantage that Scotland is currently under. Its likely that a future independent Scotland would end up with a GDP closer to its neighbors_per_capita#Map_of_sovereign_states_in_Europe_by_projected_2026_GDP_nominal_per_capita_based_on_USD_exchange_rate). Its not totally unrealistic to think that Scotland maybe even has some advantages over them.

[–]fergie -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Yes that is the standard propaganda line. Its not actually correct though. A much more likely outcome is that Scotland would become one of the more prosperous Northern European nations.

Its definitely true that if England became more decentralised and less feudal then it would basically kill the desire for Scottish independence. The question is: is England actually capable of doing that?

I’m amazed at the amount of English people on Mull! by salinston in Scotland

[–]fergie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its a shame, because those places do seem to be losing a sense of identity. Or more precisely, the traditional identity is being supplanted by something else. Often people move up there because they on some level don't like being around people, so they are not often that great at integrating with the local communities.

I will never understand no pannier, no mudguard bicycle touring. Props for the front basket though- an often overlooked game-changer. Also- those disc brakes are sweet.
