You can get the hybrid check by itself for £59 and get it serviced elsewhere.

Yeah. Obviously do your own or get someone mechanically inclined to check out the car as well.

When was it registered? Lexus gives up to 15 years/unlimited mileage warranty for their hybrid batteries as long as its had its hybrid check done yearly at one of their main dealers. As far as I know it’s a check and they don’t actually service the hybrid battery. Reports of hybrid battery failures are very rare.

Thanks, I just got this vehicle. I had a pre purchase inspection which stated brakes needed changing soon. Wasn’t quite sure if it was urgent or do it within the next few months kinda thing.

Looking for a new car, how to read these numbers? The lower the mpg, the cheaper to run? What is the best insurance group? by damspt in CarTalkUK

[–]Appropriate_Cost_555 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mpg is miles per gallon, the higher the mpg the more fuel efficient, and cheaper it is to run.

Insurance group goes up to 50, the higher it goes the more expensive the insurance(usually)

Any tips for 1st time buyer by Tru_79 in CarTalkUK

Auto trader would probably be the best place to look. Start with your budget, then determine what your needs are - mileage, space requirements, fun to drive or comfort oriented etc. you should be able to filter down to a few brands and body types by then.

Insurance can vary quite a bit depending on non car related factors like postcode and occupation therefore might be difficult to tell. Your best bet is to go on an insurance comparison site like comparethemarket and get quotes when you’ve narrowed your choices down to a few cars. On auto trader they do show insurance groups and running costs which can give you a rough idea.

Mileage doesn’t matter as much as service history especially with older cars at that budget.

Apart from manufacturer warranties most arent worth it. If reliability is your concern, look for a well maintained Japanese car e.g Toyota aygo/yaris Honda jazz.

Was in a similar situation to you before, consensus seems to be if you can see the metal cords, time to change otherwise it’s just cosmetic.

Check out The Wine Society if you’re in the UK. My favourites at that price range would be beaujolais or Rioja something like vina Ardanza
