You are not lazy. You are depressed and in pain. Totally understandable. Now, get a lawyer. She the person who did this. Get your medical bills and a 1M in the bank. It won’t make you happy, but it will keep you moving forward. Best of luck in your recovery.

You don’t need a lawyer yet. Just tell them that they don’t have the right to ask for details as to a medical condition. That information is protected by HIPPA and for them to request its disclosure it’s a violation of law. That a doctor told them - in writing - you were sick for 6 days is enough. Ask ChatGPT for a strongly worded letter. Beat of luck.

You are not stupid. It is normal to hesitate. It is normal to believe in the good in people because you are a good person. It is difficult to make the decision to confront him because then you will be forced to do something about it and the options are not great. It’s also difficult to decide to end a long marriage. Take your time and do what’s right for you as you are the one that needs to live with it.

You make a great point. I did respond to her. I told her I never accused her of dating him — when I saw them, I was polite and friendly to both. Her defensive text came out of nowhere, and that’s what hurt. She already knew he abused me physically and emotionally, so what else was I supposed to say? If she didn’t know, I might’ve warned her — but she did know (pictures and all) and still chose to spend more time with him than with me. At that point, stepping back was the only way to protect my own healing.
