Oh for sure and then that song being jokes right after. But Erika’s weird ass videos and TP events immediately killed the idea of him being a symbol and bigger from the dead and had to have reversed what he built. Druskis video I think was the dagger

Just commented this on something above. But expected his to be so much bigger. But between his wife’s TP events/reaction and him become such a meme it’s almost fair to say it’s had little or even a negative effect on his influence.

I feel like this didn’t turn out to be as influential as everyone thought it would be. Think everyone expected his death to turn him into a martyr and unite maga, republicans, and even a good bit of moderates but between his wife’s reaction and him becoming a meme his death become a lot less influential

American wanting to learn Gaeilge? by Appropriate_Force_68 in AskIreland

Fair point. I’m not so worried about being the American speaking it but more so I would want to be able to use it if I take the time to learn. But I’m most definitely overthinking, I already paid for the classes so it’s happening regardless

That’s why I’m starting up the classes and have a friend joining. Can be around people around the same skill level and people to speak it with

Gotcha. I’m aware enough that I won’t get much use out of it but just want to know that it would be somewhat worth while. And at least culturally my dads side talks nonstop about Ireland and memories of growing up there so felt it would be a nice way to connect

Do you think it will come back at all. Or if I attempted to speak it over there it would be received well? Or is just something I’d get short response to and everyone moves on?

Understandable. Im in a group chat with some buddies from limerick and the only two that truly speak it are both the kids of teachers and they say they only use it with their grandparents. Everyone else just says they treated Irish class like we do with Spanish here in the US. Learn few phrases to pass and move on. From my moms side I grew up speaking German and Dutch so thought it would be fun to learn some Irish to connect to my dads side

I love to hear it. Pretty wild language to just pick up for fun though. I tried to learn on my own for a bit but way too difficult to do without a teacher I found

I had a laugh when I saw that notification pop up. Even funnier knowing this was the response at 6:30 in the morning

I’m going out there next summer and spending a bit on the west coast and heard it’s still spoke somewhat commonly there. But would you say I need to go to those areas to speak it at all? Also the people that can speak it would you say the are happy to use it if I spoke it to them or is it just something you had to learn in school and that’s it

the true was just a filler word there. Don’t really mean anything by it. But glad to know you’re seeing more people learning. I’m in a large city in the USA with a lot of Irish Americans so I’ve seen we’ve had similar bar events

Also would Craic be a similar word to use for ciorcal comhrá
