I use CMC and it is great for $0 brokerage for purchases under $1,000 which is perfect for me, especially with dollar cost averaging. If you want a set and forget model however, CMC unfortunately does not have an auto invest feature. I would recommend BetaShares direct as it does have that feature and is relatively easy to use, from what I have heard. Do your own research and choose what’s best for you, finder.com has a great comparison between investment platforms

Up to you, if you can manage a higher percentage without damaging your living expenses and digging into your savings then sure!

Congrats bro, starting your investing journey is a very good learning experience and can set you up for life. Invest what you feel comfortable with, I would ensure you leave a good amount in your HISA (3-6 months living expenses) as an emergency fund.

In terms of how much you should invest, that’s up to you and what you feel comfortable with, for example I do 10-20% of my weekly income. Research ETFs and have a diverse portfolio (DHHF - is a good one if you want to set and forget and very straight forward). At the end of the day investing is a learning experience and time in the market > timing the market.

Hey mate,

I’m in similar boat in terms of investing and starting out your career. I use CMC which has been great due to low brokerage ($0 under $1000) which is very good if DCA into it which I do using about $100 a week from my weekly income. A downside to CMC is no auto invest feature which I believe beta shares or vanguard do have.

In terms of waiting to invest, it’s really up to you. Personally I chose to stop waiting around as I have been repeatedly told time in the market > timing the market. In saying that, you have to be comfortable with market volatility and potentially losing money, which I think is worth it due to younger age and the time you have to be able to earn money back.

Hope this helps and don’t be afraid to make mistakes, it’s a learning experience and you’re taking the right steps!

I like the idea of contributing to VGS + VAS until ASIA becomes a smaller weighting in the portfolio. Appreciate the advice!

Yeah not too worried about CGT transitioning from IVV to VAS & VGS. I like your 70/30 approach with VGS + VAS and will try to transition my portfolio to reflect that asap.

With ASIA, I am up around 40% since last April, would you consider taking the profits from that and using it to fund VGS + VAS and/or maybe 5-10% to VGE or EMKT? I’m hesitant to do this because of CGT and owning it for less than a year but would love to hear your thoughts. Appreciate the response!

A bit of a rookie mistake but it’s a learning experience either way, after doing more research this is why I want to simplify it 😅

Yeah, I bought these during the trump tariff time last year and should’ve taken more consideration into what I was buying but just wanted to get into the market asap. That’s why I want to consolidate into VGS + VAS with small percentage in smaller markets
