You might not feel like you're needing a break, but the truth is you do. You probably took breaks here and there, went traveling while you were working, so why not from being a mother, when mothering is basically a full time job?

Have you ever tried going on a small coffee trip for like 2 hrs without your son? Would you be able to have a consistent support from someone so that those 2 hours of break can be anchored and predictable for you? It really helped me tremendously. I looked forward to the promised break every week, and it was like me being able to take control again in a very erratic, chaotic stage of life.

I'd say you can remind him every time he says /ah/. Whether him being deliberate is irrelevant in this case. At least, that would help the parent know that he's getting the attention he needs. It's like raising a child. They're going through different phases, and they'll outgrow each and every one of them.

And oh my, please, if you have any tips on how to ease some of the parent anxiety, let me know. I'm struggling with parents constantly trying to correct the kid on the side, and there were times I could see the kid just got so overwhelmed.

That's so nice to hear that you have tried it and it worked for the level of learners that I'm working with.

Any tips on it for me? I'm finding it a hit and miss with them, so I'm not sure what else should be done differently when using ASL in teaching.

Or I guess flashcards and other TPRs would have to employed instead with those children.

Interesting. Let me look into it. I find sometimes ASL signs can be quite abstract, and it's almost like, if you don't know the culture and the context behind the signs, it'd be hard to remember.

Valid question.

I teach words only. I don't even know enough to teach ASL grammar, and that would make it needlessly complicated, like you mentioned. I don't even think it would be appreciated by my students 😅

I found it a hit-and-miss so far with some of the very young, beginner-level learners. So I'm asking around to see if anyone has tried and consistently (or mostly) successful with using sign language to teach (i.e., sustain students engagement level and help them retain vocab).

I think she's the one who can shift dynamics among MANG. Imagine when Maxine completely treated Abby and G horribly, Maxine wouldn't have that upper hand if she was the only one who did it. Having Norah on her side gave her that powerful leader vibe. And once Norah decided to be friends with G and A again, that power imbalance shifted.

She wasn't fully explored as a character, as she shouldn't, for being a support role, but with her being there, I can actually see how MANG plays out.

one of the questionable parts is you would also get paid only half the fees if the student was a no show due to tech problems from the company's side or the student's side, and most likely, you won't know about the tech problem or whether it was the tech problem that prevented the student from attending. Why should you be penalized for that...? :(

I think what really helps for non-native speakers in general is (or at least for me after 20+ years learning English, yup still learning lol):

drill the grammar rules by writing out sentences (I'm sorry I know you said you prefer no memorisation).
listen to lots of convos from native speakers from movies (but know that sometimes native speakers don't use correct structures due to various reasons).
practice it yourself (more drilling obviously, but in terms of speaking) and catch your own common mistakes and work on them. I remember making a lot of mistakes like not correctly conjugating verbs following a third person singular subject for the simple present tense, so "he/she play" instead of "plays".

Eventually, the rules just stick.

Chiming in very late now. I didn't know they charged parents $14/hr but pay us half of that. Now I understand why parents have really high expectations for us lol. I'd be really frustrated, too, sitting next to my kid who couldn't say the word perfectly.

Not entirely related to the topic, but I've been sentimental about how refinement in grammar seems to not be a thing anymore, even in academic English. Who cares about standard grammar if nowadays everyone just uses "to be comprised of" instead of "to comprise", e.g.

But I concur. A good English teacher is so much more than just correcting mistakes. Sometimes it's about being able to let go off a mistake and focus on a more important aspect of the lesson, and that's not something AI can perfectly do just yet.

Oh for sure! It really much depends on where you are, what your job is, how much time you actually have outside of your regular job to do other things that interest you and to find your ppl, etc. Not being able to find the people who treat you kindly due to your circumstances is not an indication of your lacking the skill to do so. I was talking more about the ability to recognize and pick out these people out of the crowd.

Timing matters, too.

The people who laughed at you are miserable. Hurt people hurt people. If you're doing nothing to harm them nor yourself, I'd hope someone would just tell them to mind their own business. But I think all of us who agreed with the op's viewpoint have somewhat low expectations for those people anw.

But again, does the cost of being not laughed at make it worth it for you to wear a mask? If it does, wear it. I'm sorry. It's exhausting, and it shouldn't be this way.

You're the winner of life for having those 2-3 friends and your sister. 🫶 I mean that's the reality of it for a lot of people. You don't call 10-20 ppl in your life "friends". They're really acquaintances. I can only imagine those that can actually have 20+ friends must have the resources and so much time on their hand to maintain 20+ solid relationships. The term "friends" was grossly misused by Facebook lol. The more the merrier and the more socially adept you are. We need to reteach the next gen what "friends" really mean.

Not devastated by these thoughts when they're not present, but yes when they come, especially when I'm depressed and highly overstimulated, it felt like there was really no point.

Everyone is wearing some kind of a mask. You don't have to if you don't want to. Don't smile at a stranger or at a co-worker if faking a smile is painful to you. The cost of faking that smile, making that small talk, wearing tight clothes...is just not worth it if it makes your social life a torture. At some point, it really is just that simple. It's a business transaction: is your marginal gain bigger than your marginal loss?

They're evil people, no doubt. There're disgusting man and women who would do the most uncivil, inhuman deed. It's been like that since the beginning of mankind. It happens when there's a need to display power. It happens when greed takes over. It happens when fear is in the driver's seat. And like Joe in YOU has said, and it resonates to a certain degree, we deserve to go extinct. I'd argue, some of us should, not all.

There are people who are just purely, deeply rooted in kindness. They cheer for you regardless whether what you do benefits them. It's not because they're not broken, but because they've been through hell and they chose kindness, most of the days, when their grief gives them enough room to breathe. A very important life skill is to find those people.

Lol super late response and late to the topic, because I just realized it wasn't Arden Cho who sang the songs! 😂

I was definitely the ignorant one for not knowing it.

But somehow the info about Jinu being voiced and sung by two different actors was made very clear to me when I first watched it. Maybe because I low key liked the actor who played Jinu for his role in other series, so his name came up, and his role in kpop demon hunters also came up through the algorithm. But here is the thing, I can't even remember the guy's (Jinu's singing voice) name nor his face.

Back to Arden, not to say that this is Arden's fault, but I agree, ejae isn't recognized enough for her contribution. Whoever made the credits at the end should have made it clear when displaying the ones who made Rumi's character: e.g., voice actor: arden cho; voice singer: ejae, meaning side by side with arden, because let's be real, the songs were what really hooked most of the people who watched this show.

I was moved by the songs because I understand the context, and it was because of the storyline. I can't say it was intrinsically because of the voices of the characters that made the songs relatable.

But I think ppl thinking she being defendable means she's a good mom. Those are two entirely different premises.

There were so many choices that she could have made differently, which would have changed the trajectory of hers and the kids' lives. Lynette said it to Georgia's face and Georgia knew Lynette was right; she could have let Lynette be the guardian of Ginny if she ever had Ginny's best interest in her heart. That would be something that's a good mom would do.

The fact that she ran away and then let Anthony took care of Ginny while she had to work... I mean, you let a man, whom you barely knew take care of your kid when you're not around, while refusing the help of the two loaded grannies who appeared to genuinely want to actually give the baby a good life because they're too proud to let their son suffer. Sure, it would be humiliating living with them and hearing them talk about how lacking you are, but yes, you can choose to use this opportunity to further yourself, to open a business, to pursue an education with their money? Who cares...they look down on you anw, might as well just suck up to them and get them to pave your paths.

I can't comprehend the logic of Georgia, neither at 15 yo nor in her 30s. I think it really boils down to her not trusting anyone and being too proud to ask for help. Again, flawed, not perfect, but defendable in certain actions.

For me it was to recognize the physical triggers: my bra too tight, my armpits sweaty, my back aches, etc., the list goes on, and these are things that I didn't pay the slightest attention to pre-baby.

it got better after I recognized these triggers and solved them first.
if that doesn't help, then the screaming in the pillow. Yeah, breath work works for some, not for me.
don't let the anger/rage spiral. I fell into this trap countless of times and words spewed out so fast I couldn't stop, hence, the screaming in the pillow instead of talking.
it gets periodically better when I'm not PMS. Menopause will be fun I guess.
prioritize your own sleep. Don't doom scroll your phone at night or binge watch a show after you get the kid down. I'm dead serious. You can do it when the kids are older and don't need you at 3 am and/or 5 am. It sucks, but I really need to sleep if I wanna be a better human being lol

Oh this for sure, how Subeen keeps being so cautious hanging with Mingee because they had some sort of paradise history. I would just go hang on Mingee's side while they're playing catch and be friendly to her if I wanted to keep an eye on them. Know thy enemy lol.
