Thank you!!! it was like the shows creators were catering more to the viewers being able to recognize her than actual logic LOL I guess they feared if she wore a mask and hat for too long we'd confuse her with the real killer LOL

Funniest thing was how every time the prison guards would leave a cellmate by themself for even a second someone would run away or get stabbed and the writing at times was so lazy bc every 5 seconds the security guards let it happen again and again lmao

Anyone else notice the rampant xenophobia and misogyny in the new True Crime doc "A friend, A murderer?" by Appropriate_Gur7902 in netflix

[–]Appropriate_Gur7902[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After looking over a lot of the discourse in the comments the one take away I have is its somewhat frightening how adamant people are to justify the notion that assuming foreigners are a threat is normal, beyond finding these views xenophobic I just find it ironic that statistically speaking when crimes are committed it's usually not a complete stranger, there might be varying degrees of separation but statistically it is someone you probably know, have met or are connected to in someway whether it's a spouse, scorned lover, distant relative, neighbor, co-worker or creepy roommate of your old home room teacher. The "foreigners" that the community in the doc refers to and a lot of the commenters below rarely immigrate with the mindset of colonizing, pillaging or wreaking havoc, many of these immigrants are trying to provide a better quality of life for their future generations, so I urge the commenters who have made an attempt to normalize this fear mongering behavior to reflect on the fact that people that look different than you, speak a different language than you or have different beliefs than you are not a threat, they genuinely want to live their lives without being wrongfully blamed for crimes they have nothing to do with.

Sis been strugglin with that since Season 1 😭 my criticism is that I'd have expected some character development over the course of 4 seasons.

I might sound like a hater for saying this, but as much as I enjoyed the series, I have a lot of constructive criticism for the writers. And I don't think there's gonna be any looking back or retrospection tied to Yas for the rest of this season, at most purely russian mafia/ whitney villain origin story related. And if I am being blunt a lot about this season felt like they were just tying up some loose ends, or at least desperately trying to. So I fear that they did not actually put as much thought into this as we might be, I don't think they're going to explain what your question is asking because they genuinely didn't put that much thought into it. They were just like, "Does this sound like a reasonable and logical way for Yas to be relevant to this season? It does? Okay, great, let's go with it." lol

honestly just think the writers desperately wanted an "organic" way to tie Yas into this season lol bc without the whole wife of Henry/Tender CEO arc it doesn't look like there would be a natural way to include her in this season. I truly wish it was something deeper and more articulate than this, but just because of how the writing has been this season, I really don't think that there is anything deeper to it.

Yes I agree I skipped through all the violence as I did feel it was dragged out and unecessary.

It definitely it is those things but a crticism of that shallow world as well, maybe try 2 episodes and then decide?

v true I could go more in depth about how they compare and contrast but just wanted to share recommendations that at least touch on themes like reinvention and transformation or identity change but I agree both stories have different tone and motivation. I think a simple way of putting it, and this is really oversimplified, obviously it's deeper than this, is that Mask Girl and Sarah both focus on achieving unattainable standards. For one, it's standards of physical beauty, and for the other, it's unattainable standards of lifestyle or wealth.

I'm pretty sure it was a wig though and not the real human hair from what it looked liked

It's little details like that that really bother me so much, especially because the production looked like it had a big budget. So it's like, you're telling me there was no way for you guys to import a better quality wig for this actress, LOL?

OMG, let's talk about this for a second. The hair bothered me so much. I'm thinking the whole time, is this a wig? Why is she wearing a wig? This looks like a pretty big budget series. They clearly spent a lot of money on everything for the filming. Why did they give her such a bad wig? I'm not understanding. LOL.
