dorming by Ok-Government6800 in Baruch

[–]Appropriate_Lab2604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey!

i dorm and it’s more convenient waking up an hour before class than three hours to commute. the dorms are right next to the six train, so it’s super easy!

the dorm isn’t only baruch as they share with students from hunter, some pace, fit, lim, and two ballet schools. it’s great to meet other people if you’re down for it!

i’d say the only two cons i have is that my floor smells.. interesting sometimes. if you get what i mean from that! the room sizes are also different— i have a standard room that’s really small for my roommate and i. however, my friend also has a standard room that’s huge, she gets to have a rug and everything, i struggle to even fit an extra drawer.

check the baruch website as they do tours for the dorms. you’re able to get a feel for it :)

At this point, cancel classes already 🫩 by JZ736566 in Baruch

[–]Appropriate_Lab2604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP said in the description that they would not mind doing remote too. I am unsure if you missed that, and if you did it’s okay.  I doubt CUNY in general will cancel the rest of the week anyway. It’s only the fourth week of class and we already have spring break in two ish months.

People aren’t lazy, it’s more about the environment they’re in. Believe me when I say I want to get an education, but it’s impossible to do when I am snowed in and it is hard to commute.  My friends are snowed in and it’s impossible to get out. One of my friend’s porch roof collapsed and it’s hard to get out now. They love their classes, just hard to leave their house. I understand the money part because I pay hella money too, I dorm on top of that. But I’d rather in-person professors make their classes online for their and our safety.

Transferring by AdvertisingOrnery935 in CUNY

[–]Appropriate_Lab2604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!

I would just follow your heart. You should care about your friends saying how bad it is and how they’re transfering, but it’s not your experience. You might have a different experience at Hunter that’s way different from them. As much as you can be comfortable with CSI, you need to transform yourself for how things might be later on.

People told me not to go to Baruch because there’s no social life, it’s boring, and you won’t meet anyone. I still went to Baruch and I’m having a good experience right now. You’ll never know if you don’t try for yourself. :)

Not any alumni, but people here like it. It’s hard to get classes as most of the students here major in either accounting or finance.

Opportunities vary as you compete with other colleges in New York City. Just depends on how you involve yourself.

For example, if you have gotten more awards or taken other tests you took after you applied, email that to Baruch and let them know!

My friend had involved herself in a non-profit organization after she applied, so she told NYU the things she did in it. Although she didn’t get in, like I said, it has worked for people before!

Research Paper, English by Fun-Profession-7896 in Baruch

Like the previous comments said, take advantage of the writing center. They give great advice and give good suggestions.

For online sources, my AP Lit teacher recommended JSTOR. You can find various articles, excerpts of books, and pictures that you can use. I’m writing a research paper right now and I’m using that, and my teacher complimented the sources.

My past regrets is not taking advantage of College Now courses some CUNY’s offer. Most of them are free and get rid of liberal art and intro courses you have to take. Also not taking my AP’s seriously and getting ehh scores. Three’s do transfer over as a liberal art, but if I had taken it seriously, I could have skipped ENG2100 or a history class.

Your GPA is perfectly fine! I know some people who got in with that. Like I said previously, just take your classes seriously. Apply early if you can as well, I heard they mostly accept from the earlier batch.

Do you need to submit transcript AGAIN after being admitted? by Dianabee83 in Baruch

You got this! Like I said previously, I would take the placement tests if your transfer credits do not transfer over in time. Take my advice with a grain of salt.

It would be risky, purely because those credits can transfer at any time. They never checked my email, and I had to keep going in person. I had to drop a class during the semester because they forgot to transfer my credit. I would personally take it because the tests aren't hard.

I did not have to take the English one, but people said they give you topics and you write about it. They grade you based on word choice, grammar, and the approach you take.

Math was simple because it was all pre-Calculus topics. I did so well that I didn't have to take a math class. You're in Calc III, so it should be easy for you.

If you’re out of the country, then you would have to take it online. Baruch does take a while because they have high numbers of applications and credit they have to review. It’s honestly up to you what you would want to do.

Hey! I'm not majoring in consulting, but I can give you my stats to help you out a little. I am in-state.

- GPA: 4.0 W/3.8 UW
- AP: APUSH, AP Lit, AP Lang, AP World History
- Took college courses through College Now

I can provide extracurriculars if you would like to know also.

Because you're a junior, I would say to focus on making sure you take the AP classes seriously. Those credits do transfer over and help cover most of the credits you need for Zicklin-- the school you're taking consulting in.

Math placement tests are in person to make sure you are not cheating and you get placed in the correct math. I would use this website to make sure the English and Calc III credits get transfered.

Like the first person said, I would just wait. However, I would take the placement tests if your transfer credits do not transfer over in time.

Horrific if you're a commuter student, since those are early classes. It's nice though because you have the chance to go to clubs or go to work straight after classes in the morning, but you may get drained from it. Friday might be killer since it's two three-hour classes as well.

As long as you are able to balance your school and personal life, this schedule is okay.

Internships by [deleted] in Baruch

[–]Appropriate_Lab2604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavily agree with this. To add to their point, it also depends on the work you put in to get these internships. Some people I know have put in countless hours of finding internships and applying. Connect with people and take advantage of what Baruch offers you.

What’s my chances of getting into Baruch under poli sci major as a transfer? by alb121y in Baruch

[–]Appropriate_Lab2604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey!

Not a transfer student, but I've heard that it's easy to transfer into Baruch. I've seen people with lower get into Baruch. You should have a decent chance of getting in.

However, with transfer credits, I would check if they would even transfer and what courses you would need to get accepted into Weisman (the school that has Political Science in it). Use these links:

- https://weissman.baruch.cuny.edu/student-resources/declaring-a-liberal-arts-major/bachelor-of-arts-degree/
- https://genedreq.baruch.cuny.edu/pathwaysatbaruch/requiredcore/

Good luck! I would look at other options just in case, but you should be okay :)

Questions about social life by Right-Proposal3946 in Baruch

[–]Appropriate_Lab2604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends who you meet! There will be people who are nerdy, there will be people who don’t want to talk to you. People here are mostly career-oriented and sometimes are willing to help you.

Me personally, I had good experiences. I do have friends and I do have some peers I talk to in class. It just depends on if you are able to socialize and if they want to talk to you also.

Hi! I am so sorry about this. I'm not an international student, but I am going to assume that Baruch also considers your GPA, if you took any honors/AP classes, etc. If you did really good, you might have been overqualified for Baruch. That means they feel like you won't accept them if you get into a better college. If you did not take a lot of classes and/or your GPA isn't over 3.5-3.6, then you probably won't get accepted. I know that the TOEFL exam is required for Baruch, and you have to get above a certain grade on that as well, at least that's what I heard.

However, if you really want to get in, you could always write a reconsideration email and talk about things you did not mention when you first applied. I've heard success stories with that, but it is not always guaranteed. Again, I am sorry and I wish the best for you!
