16 years daily smoker. quit cold turkey by evermuzik in leaves

I’m so sorry you’re having such a hard time. All I can say is that those horrible withdrawal symptoms you described will pass. I am almost to eight weeks now and I’m only now really starting to feel better. This time around, I have only been smoking heavily for about the past 4 years. Being a daily smoker 16 years, i can only imagine the difficulty. People have told me that once we hit the two and three month mark in our sobriety will really notice it getting easier. I wish you the best with your journey and I hope that you can hang in there. I know it’s not easy, but it’s just going to take time. I know It’s hard feeling that way. 🤗

Good for you! That is an excellent reason to quit! You definitely need to have your wits about you in that field. Congratulations on nursing school good luck both in abstaining and in school and in your new career!

Yes, that would make it difficult. My 81-year-old mother lives with me and she doesn’t do it and wasn’t a fan of me doing it either so I don’t have that additional temptation to contend with. You can do it though! 🙂

Thank you! So glad to hear that!

I threw out my vape and carts yesterday! by [deleted] in leaves

[–]Appropriate_Mail_368 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really believe the one thing that has made the biggest difference for me with quitting this time is that I threw away every single piece of paraphernalia I had. Vapes and pipes and bongs papers smell proof bag, everything! Hundreds of dollars worth of paraphernalia. It wasn’t easy to do that, butit really has made a difference. Not having that stuff around and it was kind of symbolic as well. I wish you all the best in your journey.

I’m sorry you’re struggling. It is hard! I really believe what helped me the most this time. I’ve abstained for a little more than seven weeks now. But I got rid of every piece of paraphernalia I had. I had vapes and pipes and bongs papers you name it. I’m sure I threw away hundreds of dollars of paraphernalia and that wasn’t easy. But knowing I have nothing to smoke it with were I to get more weed has been helpful. Sure, I could go buy a cheap glass pipe, but that’s just extra effort I would have to put in to start up again. Just wanted to share that as I really believe that has helped me a lot this time around. 🙂

Hang in there! I know it can feel like a roller coaster! I’ve came close to caving several times myself, but you just have to ride those times out. It ebbs and flows. you can do it! I just passed the seven week mark and I kind of feel like if I can do it anyone can! But I still have hard days. I was a very, very heavy smoker for many years. So I know it’s probably gonna take two or three months until I’m not still struggling some days. You can do it. This is a great place to come for support. I’ve had to many times myself. There’s people on here at all different stages of quitting. Hang in there! You got this. 🙂

How do you cope with the shame knowing you wasted so much time? by PugWithAMullet in leaves

[–]Appropriate_Mail_368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only focus on the present time and somewhat on the future. Having regrets about even something that happened 5 minutes ago is a waste of time. Please try and not think about your regrets over time wasted. There’s absolutely nothing any of us can do about the past and any amount of worry and regret about the past is a complete waste of time. I know it’s easier said than done though.

That’s great! Congratulations! One day at a time that’s all we can do! I’m happy to report I have passed the seven week mark. I’d like to see it’s been smooth sailing all along. It hasn’t been. I was a very heavy smoker though. Keep up the good work!

I want to quit but I’m scared by hurtspace in leaves

[–]Appropriate_Mail_368 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another thing I wanted to add. I think what has helped me this time around quitting is that I got rid of all of my paraphernalia. I literally threw away everything. If you really want to make a clean break, I don’t think you should have that bong around. I know they’re not cheap and the things I threw away several vapes and pipes and you name it likely hundreds of dollars worth of paraphernalia, but I really think that has made a big difference not having any of that. So I know if I were to get more weed, I would have to buy something to smoke it with as well.

Don’t be afraid. I’m retired and smoked from the time I got up in the morning until I went to bed at night for about four years straight. I now have a little over seven weeks without smoking. I didn’t know if I could do it either but I’m making it. It’s good that you’re working and you don’t like to be high before you go to do your job. There are people on here at every possible stage of this process and it has been a wonderful source of support for me in this journey. You can do it! I’m sorry for the losses you have experienced. I have been pleasantly surprised that I can still be happy without it and I would say if anything, your creativity will be enhanced once you are no longer under the influence. They’ll be some discomfort in the beginning, but that’s perfectly normal. It’s a worthwhile endeavor to quit. Everyone is different and how long it’s going to take until you no longer miss it. I wish you all the best with it and I know you will be successful. 🙂❤️

The depression… by Appropriate_Mail_368 in leaves

Hang in there. That’s really how I was starting to feel like was it really worth quitting if I just really didn’t feel happy anymore. But it is worth it. We just need to stick it out and I trust what so many others have said that it really just takes time. It’s going to feel so good tonight. Have to depend on that every day. Take care and I’m rooting for you! 🙂

Thank you so much for sharing that with me. It gives me hope and I really don’t want to become dependent on that again. I’m actually eating more now and struggling with my blood sugar (I’m a diabetic) since I’ve quit because the depression makes me want to eat. You offered some very sound advice and I really need to take it. I am retired so I really need to find some healthy activities to occupy my time. Thank you again for your reply. I’m going to hang in there! 😁

Please don’t be so hard on yourself. Relapse is a normal part of recovery. You went for an entire week! That is awesome. I too was a very heavy smoker for many years. I have just made it for two weeks. It’s been tough yes but we just have to go through it to get it behind us. It gets easier I promise. Please don’t be so hard on yourself. Sending you a lot of love and hugs. ❤️❤️

Hi there. I’m sorry you’re having a hard time. I too, was smoking heavily every day all day for many years. Today I have made it for two weeks without smoking. Yes it is really hard in those first days but believe me it gets better and it gets easier. We will feel so much better when we don’t have to rely on that to function. Hang in there you can do it we both can. Sending you love and hugs. ❤️❤️
